but thats unrelated. i need an engine because i found a real "steal" of a deal on a 96 outback with a hole in the block. I'm not really sure what engine is in it now, but a 2.5 should be an easy swap no?
i just want something cheap so i can get it on the road now. maybe a wrx engine later down the road.
I need a boosted winter beater :P

Rep Power: 291 ah, the legacy outback. i thought the 96 had the 2.5L already?
is it a 2.2?
man, you should find my old subaru and plop that 2.2 in it. hehehe those engines are solid and usually cheap.
lemme dig and get back to you.
just for the record: it's the 2.2 you want, right?

Rep Power: 268 Just looking for a plug and play. The car is super cheap and we need another car. So any engine that will fit and be an easy install. we were thinking about the wrx swap but right now getting the car on the road is the main idea

Rep Power: 291 WRX Swap: the wiring is a nightmare. if you're looking for quick & easy like erik's mom, I'd go with the stocker.
you still haven't said what the engine is. :P
is it a 2.2 or 1.8L?

Rep Power: 291 the engine from mine has a blown head gasket...other than that it's fine.
but...it's teds.
the wiring is different between the 2.2 and 2.5, but way easier to figure out than the wrx swap.
i think the easiest thing would be to replace the block to be honest. the engines are way more fun to work on, seeing as they're horizontally opposed.
unlike those garbage honda engines
