Probably a write off
Probably a write off
So long story short the Accord is probably a write off. It was hit while parked in gatineau. So my question is where can I find what the car is worth. Know I now it's a piece of **** but it had a ton of new parts on it. That car would of lasted a few more years. So I really don't want to get screwed by my insurance and need to know what it is worth. Our insurance is willing to work with us cause the guy who hit it is admitting he was a fault. So post up if you can help. Thanks

hmm...well the black book won't be much help but I would suggest looking online at www.autotrader.ca. I think they have a search feature that allows you to find damaged/wrecked cars. But aside from that, just look for the same car in general and try to knock off what you think the damage is worth.....hope this helps! Good Luck!

Yup...the black book is what you're looking for. not the blue book.
Give that a look-see.
Plus...the insurance company will barter with you...they just won't tell you that they're lowballing you.
You can always say "No, that's not enough" and they'll come back with a counter-offer. Keep trying until you get what you want (within reason of course).
Sh1tty beans about the car...what a moron. was it a drunk guy, or a teenage chick?

Not to sure on all the details. Our witnesses speak french but according to my insurance guy the guys cane fell and hit the gearshift, so he looked down and when he looked up he hit the car. He left his name and number on the windshield and we have witnesses. Something seems fishy though casue this was around the corner and he hit the car so hard it moved it about a foot in the front and a bit in the back. thanks for the advice about dealing with the insurance.

Sorry to hear Caryn ... a little better since the car was parked and no one was harmed in the process, but at the same time, worse to hear because it was frigging parked.
So we told them we wanted more and he said no way usless you can tell us why. So Julian told him about the money and work that went into the car. The insurance said well we wont take that since a licence mechanic didn't do the work. So Julian said that $1700 wont do and to call back when he has a better offer. About 45min later Julian gets a call from the rental company to return the rental and it had to be done by 6pm or we are charged an extra day. Well that was about 4;15pm so we had less than 2 hours. I was at work so by the time I got home we had 1 hour to get it back. We take it back and find out there shuttle service stops at 5pm so we had no ride home. So we had no choice but to take the rental for an extra day that we are being charged for. So tomorrow we are going above this guys head and going to deal with it. Giving us less than 2 hours notice to return the car is wrong. The insurance guy called after 3 so even if we came to a deal we would not of had enough time to return the rental. So tomorrow we are looking for another insurance company. Everytime we have to deal with them it is such a hassel.

If you lived in Ontario still I would reccomed Paul Landry Ins. They are brokers, my insurance has been awsome. I am with Ecconomical. Was it the insurance company that screwed you over with the rental, or was it the actual rental company?
