Caliper/Drum painting

Well it's that time of year, I'm sure everyone has a nice "rust" colour forming on their calipers and drums. We should set a day in the near future, and sand/paint those ****'s This could take some time. I don't know if I'll actually spend alot of time sanding, but the painting will take a few coats, and you need to wait for them to dry.

Lets set something up!

Just remember you can take the drums off. Pretty easy...they should just slip off. might need a little force but nothing much since there is nothing really holding them on. Thought I would mention since I saw that you guys paint them while they are still on the car. This way you dont have to worry about getting paint any where but the drums

if you clean them up well.. they should last you a few years.. atleast mine did.. i spent atleast a couple of hours cleaning..

and yes drinking and driving is bad... but i'd assume you will hang out for a bit ... let things dry up.. and all that good stuff...

besides.. i would want to touch the brakes right after you have driven it! ehhee

Well it can't be our place, we don't have a hose.... Apartment living sucks man.

We could use a preassure washer for the engine bays though.

OK well I suppose that no one can host the engine bay cleaning event. I have a question. I want to paint my breaks tomorrow. I was looking at paint at CT the VHT in particular, it's 12.99 a can, but they only have gloss black. And I didn't know what kind of primer I should get. I was wondering if I could use plain tremclad? I would like flat black instead of gloss. Opinions/comments.

Ok well I made an executive decision. I am buying a can of flat black tremclad high temperature paint. No primer, seeing as how I will be doing this every spring, I'm not going to spend the 2 hours sanding and such. 1 can is under $10

it's easy. It only took me 3 hours, but thats with the ghey jack that the car comes with. If you can get both tires off on the front or back at one time, your laughing. All you need is some sanding paper, and some old plastic shopping bags to cover up your disks.

You know you can take your drums off to paint. Nothing really holding them on. Will save the stress so you dont have to worry about paint everywhere

seriously though. Paint won't go everywhere if you do it in a garage. it's probably more of a hassel to take them damn things, off. Chances are they would be seazed on there good. I know that all you need to do is pop the drums off with a phillips, but you'd still need to take the wheel off, and do all the prep work. yeh yeh

A tap with a hammer and they should come right off. Hopefully they are not seized since the car is still pretty new. Just saves the hassel with paint going everywhere.
