Caliper/Drum painting

Well it's that time of year, I'm sure everyone has a nice "rust" colour forming on their calipers and drums. We should set a day in the near future, and sand/paint those m0f0's This could take some time. I don't know if I'll actually spend alot of time sanding, but the painting will take a few coats, and you need to wait for them to dry.

Lets set something up!

gohanix 03-27-2006 03:13 PM

the waiting times are great for drinking

E展k 03-27-2006 04:44 PM

Yeah and then driving home? :nono:

tekgnosis 03-27-2006 05:16 PM

I might hit up the caliper painting on my bike. A nice gold colour would be pimp.

JDMspark009 03-27-2006 05:42 PM

Take some time I think it took me 10 min on Sunday to do the drums in the rear

Tofast4me 03-27-2006 07:58 PM

Just remember you can take the drums off. Pretty easy...they should just slip off. might need a little force but nothing much since there is nothing really holding them on. Thought I would mention since I saw that you guys paint them while they are still on the car. This way you dont have to worry about getting paint any where but the drums

Premium Plus 03-27-2006 08:04 PM

i painted mine last summer, and they still lookin as good as ever. i must have used good paint or somethin

DDragon7 03-27-2006 11:16 PM

Yeah, I was thinking of paint them this year too.

gohanix 03-28-2006 09:08 AM

if you clean them up well.. they should last you a few years.. atleast mine did.. i spent atleast a couple of hours cleaning..

and yes drinking and driving is bad... but i'd assume you will hang out for a bit ... let things dry up.. and all that good stuff...

besides.. i would want to touch the brakes right after you have driven it! ehhee

Si2NV 03-28-2006 10:53 AM

need to paint my drums too....their not that bad but they can use a coat or two.

Pharoh 03-28-2006 11:16 AM

SerialD 03-29-2006 07:30 AM

I'm down just to help out.

DDragon7 03-29-2006 08:46 PM

What do you use to clean the filter?

JDMspark009 03-30-2006 07:31 AM

Water and soap whos house can we goto to do this this year????

E展k 03-30-2006 02:04 PM

Well it can't be our place, we don't have a hose.... Apartment living sucks man.

We could use a preassure washer for the engine bays though.

JDMspark009 03-30-2006 04:13 PM

I have a hose and pressuer washer but man I dont have the space

E展k 03-31-2006 06:33 PM

Can't someone host this thing??? PLEASE

E展k 04-15-2006 03:49 PM

OK well I suppose that no one can host the engine bay cleaning event. I have a question. I want to paint my breaks tomorrow. I was looking at paint at CT the VHT in particular, it's 12.99 a can, but they only have gloss black. And I didn't know what kind of primer I should get. I was wondering if I could use plain tremclad? I would like flat black instead of gloss. Opinions/comments.

DDragon7 04-16-2006 11:40 PM

Bump, Im waiting to find out as well, and does the primer need to be high temperature?

E展k 04-17-2006 04:34 PM

Ok well I made an executive decision. I am buying a can of flat black tremclad high temperature paint. No primer, seeing as how I will be doing this every spring, I'm not going to spend the 2 hours sanding and such. 1 can is under $10

DDragon7 04-17-2006 09:33 PM

LoL, I also made an executive decision today, got some high temp bbq paint at Rona for $6, lol.

JDMspark009 04-18-2006 07:27 AM

haha ayou guys can come here if you want I have a liil space but i am not responsible

E展k 04-18-2006 05:57 PM

Already done. You guys can see the finished product this Friday. I did it all in the parking garage.

DDragon7 04-18-2006 06:09 PM

I think Im gonna have to come out and take a look.

E展k 04-18-2006 06:41 PM

it's easy. It only took me 3 hours, but thats with the ghey jack that the car comes with. If you can get both tires off on the front or back at one time, your laughing. All you need is some sanding paper, and some old plastic shopping bags to cover up your disks.

Tofast4me 04-20-2006 04:55 PM

You know you can take your drums off to paint. Nothing really holding them on. Will save the stress so you dont have to worry about paint everywhere

E展k 04-20-2006 05:32 PM

seriously though. Paint won't go everywhere if you do it in a garage. it's probably more of a hassel to take them damn things, off. Chances are they would be seazed on there good. I know that all you need to do is pop the drums off with a phillips, but you'd still need to take the wheel off, and do all the prep work. yeh yeh

Tofast4me 04-20-2006 06:02 PM

A tap with a hammer and they should come right off. Hopefully they are not seized since the car is still pretty new. Just saves the hassel with paint going everywhere.
