Rims & Suspension advice?

I've got a totally stock 2004 Civic sedan.. Clearly I need to put 17" rims and probably some sort of suspension so people don't laugh at my car with the big rims on it.

Having had a Golf GTI VR6 in the past - I know what a good suspension is supposed to feel like - and the honda doesn't have one

So my goals: Sub 20lb rims, I think I want 17's. Suspension doesn't have to have a huge drop, but has to improve handling over stock. Price, well.. I'm not exactly made of money so its got to be reasonable.

How you can help: point me at a local shop that is "the" place to get this stuff done, or suggest the parts and I'll deal with getting them installed.

Thanks
Roo

drop it an 1" or 1.5".. i'm sure there is a used set you can find..
get a better rear sway bar.. (find some used from an rsx premium or type s... 19mm) 80$ with the bushings..
you might need a camber kit.. not sure about the civics...

that should make a night and day diff for sure..

For suspention, what u need is a full coilover system. what this is, is spring and shocks/sturts.

most of are lowered with only springs, and stock shocks, which kinda sucks

with a full coilover, u can adjust the eight if the car as well as the dampness of the suspention, so u can adjust it for track or street use.

also, replacing your 2 lower sway bars to thinker ones, and adding upper sway bar, will also improve your handelling alot.

dude, he said he wasn't made of money. if your trying to do it on the cheap, get some lowering springs (1-2") and leave your stock shocks. Not the ideal setup, but nice. If you want a nice ride with decent handling, Goldlines ride very nice. For a little better handling at the expense of ride comfort, go with Neuspeeds. I have never tried the others(eibach, etc.)

Our cars are very sloppy, so there is a lot of room for improvement with various sway/strut bars. The single best suspension mod I have done is probably the larger rear sway bar. Cheap and it really changes the charactaristics of the car.

If you want anything more serious, your going to want to at least replace the stock shocks, or get full coilovers. I suggest reading around in the suspension sub-forum here. Those guys know their ****.

And Gohanix is right, not many people would want to put up with a car as stiff as mine, especially during the winter. Everything in my car squeaks rattles and bangs. It soulds like riding in a tank or something. BANG, SQUEAK, CRASH, BANG. But I can probably outhandle just about anything on the road.

Thanks, that helps me decide what to get..

but where to go? Which Ottawa shop should I go to? Autotrendz is right around the corner from my place.. but I'm willing to shop around for the best service.

Tires and rims, I'm likely to do some web shopping. A favorite of mine is talontire.com but a friend of mine used 1010tires and did well with that.

Or maybe I'll get lucky and pick up a nice lightly used set. (provided the rims don't weigh 25lbs each)

Um for springs, just check out the Local Vendors thread, and call up the shops. For Tapp Auto Pharoh put in the FAX NUMBER

You can always look them up on the web site of in the phone book. KVR Performance is pretty good, you might want to try them

go with rota for rims if you're looking for something light...

suspension, if you're looking for handling go with sway bar upgrades...ride height, if you're going to drop it 1.5" or lower you'll need shocks eventually so like player said, consider coilovers or a real small drop

Thats average!

Most places you go your paying by the hour and it's usually $75-80 an hour. and they say it takes 3 hours. so roughly $300

Rob>> If you take care of your suspension your stock struts SHOULD be ok.

I haven't had any problems, and I've been dropped for over a year.

But I definately want to go lower
