Depends what style you're looking for really. What's really good are the Hed Kandi sets - you can find those in Music World too. Nice and groovy, they don't deliberately trip you out (but it's fun when they do). ANY and I mean ANY release from Naked Music is guaranteed to drop panties, I love spinning that stuff. There are a whole chunk of mixes by Petalpusher that are guaranteed to make you groove. Or if your crew is one of those "I'm into everything" types, try finding a collection of old reggae, like Burning Spear or something. If you wanna stay in the harder, faster, more "commercial" electronic side of things, Ministry of Sound and Global Underground are always good. Boy George has a CD or two on Trustthedj.com that are hot. Also, Pete Tong, DJ Disciple, Dimitri from Paris, Danny Tenaglia, etc etc etc. Those are just my 4-beat picks.

If you really wanna kick up the party, hire a DJ. It's better cause he can gauge reaction and change up as needed. Seamlessly too, if he's any good. Better than stopping a CD to put another one in as people get sick of the selections.

Luke Fair is a friend of mine. he's been touring with Sasha and Digweed (sp) and is either playin Las Vegas or in Brazil for New Years. I have his 2004 Demo and brought it out to a meet one night.

No, I know only too well who he is. Number one DJ according to WHO? MTV? There IS no number-one DJ in the world. There are too many genres, subgenres, turntablists, mixers, producer/DJ's to name ONE the NUMBER-ONE. Any such ranking is pretentious and holds no water. I agree his live shows are technically tight. But his tracks are *****. Why did he play the Olympics? Cause Oakie was too busy and expensive, and most of the other big names were on tour. On top of that, do you think that perhaps the people looking to sign a DJ to spin the Olympic Opening Ceremonies went to the same source that proclaimed Tiesto the number one DJ in all the world? Think Oakenfold, van Helden, Andy C, Q-Bert, Jazzy Jeff, Mixmaster Mike, Mystical Influence, Sniper, Capital J, Danny Tenaglia, Miguel Migs, etc etc... I'm a DJ, I know how hard it is to make it in the game, which is why I don't say someone sucks just cause his name is out there. I say he sucks because he is one-dimensional, his sets, while technically flawless, don't tell a story, the way a set should - he might as well put on a CD. Trance and progressive are in themselves a monotonous subgenre anyway, which makes it harder IMO to spin a good set (I have spun it, I hate it and no longer do). Tiesto and his contemporaries only move one kind of people, and honestly were YOU dancing at the Olympics? Were you dancing in front of the screen? A DJ makes people move, and the only way I can see people moving to Tiesto's stuff is when they're doped up or drunk. I'm sure he's a technically amazing DJ, and I respect his success, more power to him. But I think his music stinks, and his career further stagnates the electronic music scene, which, as we can see, is already on a downswing, with live bands and organic music on its upswing for the decade/cycle.
