*UPDATE * alternator screwed
So past few day, the car takes a bit to start up, not like usual, today finally the battery died, i called in CAA and they jump started it, took it to parts source to test the system. Nothing wrong with my battery. But apparently my alternator is bad, it does reacharge in time, as soon as i put the AC on the voltage went down to around 11, and didnt go up.
now i cant find any after market alternators for my car, its still under waranty so honda will replace it. but thats useless for me cause the same thing will happen again, i want something more powerfull.
what r my options, what should i do

Player - I agree on two accounts.
1) Get it replaced under warrantee NOW. If it lasted you this long, a stock one will last just as long again. In the meantime, use the free one while you are researching what options you have to get a new one. You probably don't need an after market alternator, but a better solution in a different part of your car: ICE. There are components you can get that don't put such a huge strain on the alternator/battery. If you fix up your system, it won't strain the batt/alt as much and the stock warrantee alternator will suffice for the rest of the life of your car (hopefully).
2) I don't read posts in other forums, so it was a good idea to post in the ottawa forum, even though it was a repost.
Shame on the Mrs. for being such a spazz instead of helping you!

Yah I agree, we paid for the warranty ... so bleed that sucka dry before its up (hey btw, any chance you want to include me in your curb hoppin' expeditions ... next time ??? huh huh eh eh come on .... You know you waaaaannnnnt it)
Yah even if it lasts you another 2 years ... by that time more aftermarket stuff will be out for our gens and maybe they'll have a better one.

OK SO I WENT IN TO HONDA TODAY, AND they replaced the alternator no problem. the only problem is that they said my battery got screwed too, so i have to change it, and it only 50% under warant, so they wanted over 100 for a new one, i told them **** it, ill just get an after market one. so i went to part source looking for an optima yellow top, but found that its been replaced by a brand called ORBITAL, there is a deep cycle one made for audio uquipment and whatnot and has a 3 year waranty. i payed 180 for it. went home and installed it. its a bit bigger then stock but still fit, but i had to get ride of the plastic cover over the battery. now it works perfectly.
The lights dimming with the bass has decrease almost 80%, it is almost unoticible. i love it. i also got a cheap volt meter gauge which i will instal later. i highly recomand this battery, it seems to work awsom

Guys come on....do you ever check out why your alternators blew. Just to let you all know I am still running on my original alternator. Do you not all see that the problem might be a little bigger then just the altenator blowing. Player did you tell Honda to look and find out if there is a bigger problem. I just find it funny that after 2 years the stupid thing blew. Your warant is almost up, do you really want to go through this again in 2 years paying for everything out of pocket? Find out what the problem is. Its not hard just ask the Honda guys to look. Get a little pissed if you have to but make them look.
Sorry but it is a pet peeve when people take there cars to the garage and don't find out what the problem is. Another thing look over your wanrent and see if it says anything about the battery. I know from personal experience that Honda shops tend to not know the whole warent (there are a few differnt kinds) They also try to get out of paying for things. You have a battery that got fu(ked cause of the alternator. I know Julians said something like normal wear and tear is not covered but mechanical(?sp) breakdown is. Your wanrent will have definations on the back.
I know Player that you don't like taking advice from a girl but I know my stuff. I would check into things. Remember friday when I was doing the whole up the *** thing? You my friend need to stand up pull your pants up and get things done

The reason the alternator went bad is because the factory had the belt too tight whicah casues the internal bearing to go bad and cause other problems with the charging..
My went bad 1000 mile after the warrenty expired and it costed me 350 buck for parts a labor.
There was a Honda service bullitn on this issue If I can find it I'll edit my post with a link.

caryne i dont have a problem taking advise from u, u know 100 times more then i do, Plus u taugh me standerd
i did listen to what u told me on friday i gave them **** and asked them the same questions, they said that the 2001's and some of the 2002's the alternators were faulty, they were not designed to go well with the belts on them and therefore it causes them to go bad, he said they replaced it bt the one from the 03.04s which shouldnt have a problem, but if it breaks again and its because its faulty again they will fix it even after waranty.
and the battery he showed me were it says 50% for the battery i tries telling them that it is the fault of the alternator, but he said i still have to pay 50%, and honestly i was looking for an excuse to get a better battery, so i just went with the aftermarket one.
i shouldnt have any problems now though, so thatnks for your help guys. and gals

My altenator went on me yesterday. I need a new one/rebuilt one. Any suggestions? Think Honda will cover it out of warranty if its a known issue??
