Whassup yall.
Im just wondering what everyone does about getting there car serviced. I just brought my car to Honda, and they said im due for a type c (280$) Service. Im looking in my litttle book thing, and im trying to decide whether or not its worth bringing it in. I know i can change my oil, rotate tires, and chack my fluids, but there is also some suspension inspections along with fuel lines, brake components and stuff like that. So does anyone else bring there cars to Honda for regular servicing? I think its a scam hardcore. Ive never really investigated what they do, but i think its bullshit.

The way I understand it from working at Carmax - if you do your on Tune Ups to keep track of all records and recipets (spelling) if possible!
Like me, i am a DIY person and never take my car in to a dealer, except for major work! I have like hundreds of books of maintance and recipets (spelling) for all my cars, like when it was done and who help and had it signed off be a witness.
Just my 2 cents if this helps!

^yah thats another thing. If i go to sell my car and i have no proof of doing all the work myself then people get iffy. This seems like a pretty big job, so i should probably take it in just to be safe. It sucks tho, because the majority of the time there isnt anything wrong.

Talk to robbclark. Apparently some dealerships don't even do the work, but they let all old parts/fluids sit for a couple of hours in their garage, give your car back to you, charge you out the a$$ and then they say they checked it.
Then when your car breaks down out of warranty... guess who is gonna come running back for repairs?

That is true to, at Carmax some techs dont even do the work, they just jimmy regit or lie, some just add more oil instead of changing the oil, same goes with all the fluids...........I report it and I no longer work there!

I've had my big service thing done. Minus the oil change and filter replacement part of course. Cost me less that way.
Just had my valves tightenend!!
i have gone to honda for service, at 8,16,24,32 k at the 40 i didnt go anf i switched to synthatic, but i will do it at 48, it costs alot, but u keep a clean record on your car, and you makes sure that nothing is wrong with that cat, i goto huntclub honda they r good, amd i know they do the work, beuse they always comment on what i have done to the car, and i can always here by bass bumping from there garage. They even top off my windshield wiper fluid. and at several point they find screw and rocks on my wheels and they take care of it and even show me the small screws.

Just bring it in to your dealer man, don't worry about them fookin around with your car! You need the service done, then go get it done. They don't have any reason to screw around. and if they did, I'm sure you'd find out by driving it!

Tell me your mileage and I'll tell you what REALLY needs to be done. Dealers have these packages for stupid people to get done and pay tons of money for. The only thing I would let tham do is change the oil and brake fluid because I don't know how. Everything else is a rip and can easily be done yourself.

I've only dealt with Ottawa Honda. I get along with the Service Manager pretty well. He hooked me up with new floor mats for free, Never had a problem..
Gearbox, it would be really cool if you could tell us what needs to be done around 70k
When should I get my valves tightened? Mike?? Maybe you can tell me?

Well valve adjustment is recommended every 15k (especially when driving hard), but most of us don't have money for that. Let me pull out my maintenance log and tell you guys when stuff should get done so the car stays in good condition.
First off, it's good to use a fuel system cleaner. Techron is horrible and doesn't do anything. I suggest greased lightning brand if you have it there, and it says to only use it once a year.
Next is always check the air filter with every other oil change. It usually needs cleaning or replacement under 10k miles
Spark plugs. While mine only lasted 18k miles, some last longer. I say for sure change them with NGK brank around 70k. Iridium is good.
For tranny fluid. If you have an auto, change and refill every 15k miles if you want it to last. Manual can go as much as 30k miles without change.
Brake fluid gets changed every 3 years regardless of mileage.
Always a good idea to check brake wear every 20k miles or so to see if they need replacing.
Flush the coolant every 30k miles and refill.
Get some throttle body spray cleaner and wipe around the inside of the TB, below the butterfly valve. It's the thing your air intake connects to.
Check cabin dust/pollen filters every 10k and vacuum them out.
Check battery for corrosion and clean/grease as necessary.
I would have the timing belt changed at 90k miles.
I'm sure I missed alot, but now you have a good idea. As you can see, most of it can be done yourself.

^wow thanks for all the helpfull info. My mileage is 67000, and im goin in for the 64000 km maintenance. Heres what the book sais:
-Replace oil and filter
-Inspect brakes
-Check parking brake adjustment
-Inspect tie rod ends, steering gear box/boots
-Inspect suspension components
-Inspect driveshaft boots
-Inspect brake hoses and lines
-Check all fluid levels
-Inspect cooling system hoses and connections
Seems like they try to use complicated things to confuse people such as steering gear box and boots, or tie rod ends. Most people wont know what it means and just take it in. So does this service seem worthy or not?

The only thing I really dislike about dealer packages .. is from my past experience, you pay them twice for it. Once to do that package.. the second for the hours on the labour. Maybe it was just that Toyota dealership, but there's no doubt that I'm skeptical about dealerships (especially since they couldn't even fix the car properly).
Lastly, take into consideration that Gearbox stated his numbers in miles not kilometers, so don't go all nuts if you don't have to.
though I know its sad, as its because of the way I drive but I just laughed too much when I read:
I wished my brakes would last that long .. maybe if I didn't drive like a maniac all the time

Well I just got new brake pads at 23k miles. Honda pads seem to last the longest. Also, the only thing I really see in that list is oil change. The rest are unimportant. Most dealers don't even do the inspections. All you have to do is open the hood, check fluids, and get an oil change. You're fine.

yah gearbox i agree. Im going to go to another dealer and ask some questions. Like will my warranty be void if i dont bring it in a stuff. I will also ask about the 64k service too. Thanks for all the advice everyone. Its interesting to see what other people do about servicing.
make sure they prove what they say.. some have been known to lie..
i assume that acura and honda have the same warranty.. so you dont void the warranty as long as you can prove that you did the scheduled maintenance..
