WTB: Installation services
I have a four channel amp running my in-car speakers right now and I am looking to add a two channel amp to run one MTX sub. I am looking for someone who is willing to do the install for me at a reasonable price. You must have done this before, I dont want somone trying to learn on my car and have the car catch fire or something :-).
I do have a few questions...
1. My current amp kit is only a 8 gage. What would I need to do for the set-up I want, would I have to get a whole new 4 gage amp kit or would 4 gage power wire be sufficient? The other items in the amp kit will just be regular thickness, right (ie ground wire in 4 gage and 8 gage is the same thickness?)
2. Do I need a ground block dist. and a power dist?
3. I have also have a second wiring kit I bought that is 8 gage for the second amp
4. The amp will be mounted in custom board already installed behind the seat.
Anyone who is interested in helping me out, let me know. Also please let me know if I am missing anything in terms iof parts. I will buy everything you need and so there is no time wasted.
It must be a clean job

Amer, to make things easier for you. Drop the 8 guage, go 2 guage. You will need a power dis, no ground dis.. all amps must have their own ground to the car. You can have your 4 channel running the 8 guage from the power dis, and 8 guage ground. The MTX depending on its amp rating will be running anywhere from 8 to 4 guage.
WIth the 2 guage setup, you will leave room for more amps to flow incase you ever deside to upgrade amps or add 1 more low ampage amp. Thats is my 2 cents.
On top of that, you should just do it your self. It takes about 1 hour to do the whole install; from RCAs, to removing your old wire and upgrading to 2 guage. If your deck has multiple preouts then you should run seperate RCAs for your sub amp but if it doesn't then you will just run from one of the amps pass though RCA connections saving you even more time on the install.

But I do not even know where to start on doing it myself, I dont wanna start something and mess things up. All I am running is a single sub so it should not be draining that much bower it is the MTX 8304 I think. I am going to run 4 gages to both amps. I might take your suggestion about going with 2 gage.

As in will you come and do it for me ? :-) I just am not comfortable with taking the car apart on my own, and for another thing I am not sure how to remove the headunit, it is a CDA-7998, how would you remove that. Could somoene just take $50 and do it for me, everyone seems to say that it is an easy job requiring at most an hour, so who is willing to make $50/hour, I will even throw in lunch at the local McDonalds !!!!!

Do you have a job, cuz if you dont I am taking Friday off, perhpas that might be good. IF not then how about Sunday? Let me know. I still have to get the parts thoough. Maybe a 2 gage kit. Like I said, I already have a 8 gage kit in the car and another one for the second amp. I got a good price on it so I dont wanna upgrade to 4 gage if i dont have to right now. I also need to get a power block. Tell me, do brands matter? I mean a Stinger brand block can be had for about $20 at futureshop.

brands dont matter just make sure that if you are going with my 2 guage idea that you have a block that can accept 2 guage and output down to 8 which should be no problem, otherwise its pretty much all looks.
Yes I do work, every evening 6:30pm-12am and Fridays 2pm-11pm. Saturday I work 8:30am-4pm so if something Thursday is the best day and sometime around 3pm-5pm would work for me; thats if you dont have work during that time.

Wow you work 7 days a week? Well I am at work from 9-5pm but I could probably get away early if I was sure that you were available. Boss is away this week so I could do something this week. If it was Thurs at 4 pm would you have enough time to complete the job and make it to work as well? How much time will you need. Do you know how to remove my HU it is the CDA 7998, I have the manual with me as well.
How about Friday at like 10 am or so... let me know.

Sunday I have off.. 6pm-12am is mon-fri
I'm off to montreal friday at 5am. Thursday 4pm,np ! 100% I can install it, get it working and everything under an hour. The deck should be no problem to remove, it should just be a slide clip. Better question, my house or yours.. all depends if you have the right tools, which you probebly dont
so i'm guessing your coming down to sauga.

I am still in the process of getting the cabling and and the dist block, so it might take me some time. Futureshop wants like $169 + taxes for a 4 gauge kit. If I order from Sounddomain online I can get a 2 gauge for $72-$90 US. Also I already have a neon connect and wired from the back of the car to the front. If I want to say add more in the future, what will I need, will a dist block with enough outputs the only requirement or would I need something else. The existing neon has burnt out and it is attached via the cig lighter. Maybe we can do the install next Sunday, Aug 29 or the folowing Sunday, depdning on wheni i get the parts, or you can suggest a place locally where i can get it for a better price.
