Conclusion to the problem

You know, I keep hearing about everyone wanting more juice out of their civ and I have come to the conclusion. Why bother with the "engine swap' when you can get the real thing? Sure it would be cool to have a Civ with a K20 or something under the hood, but honestly, wouldn't it be easier to just buy a RSX Type S? I have been thinking about this for a few days now and the only logical conclusion I can draw is why waste money on an engine swap? Buy the real thing and save some money? I am hoping to have my "financial" situation in order to purchase a RSX type S this summer becuas enothing beats 200HP 6 speed sumbitch ripping through the streets of E-Town.......yeeeehahhaaaaaa

The last part about the 6spd ripping through the streets part makes sense. Financially speaking though, you'll spend more on a new Type S than on a Type S swap. I traded in my 03 Si a while back w. roughly 42k KM on it and got around $13k. From Acura.ca, the starting price for a Type-S is $34,050. Thats 20 grand on top of the $13k you'd get for your Civic (less now as its 2005, and you have an LX).

I don't think Type S swaps come in at 20 grand, hell, Type R swaps don't. You do get the Type-S, but personally, for the money, I've always felt the Type S to be a bit over-rated, just my $0.02.

And btw, its not a 200hp sumbitch anymore, its a 210hp sumbitch

Grin, why do it? Cause people don't suspect a civic can beat much.

But, we know different now, dont we...

Heh, had to throw in my 2 cents. Not inteded to offend.

the only way it would be less money is if you traded a newer civic for an older type s. then it would be cheaper. I thought about it but i'm too comfortable with the civic right now. especially since i'd have to rip out all my audo equipment. I think a k20a3 would be a decent swap. add some bolt-ons and (for me anyways) i'd be a happy camper.

Okay then, enlighten me. I hate the fact that this car we drive has little power to it. If I were to do an engine swap, how much would it cost? Also, would I have little problems when it comes to aftermarket parts? What i mean by this is, can i start looking at the RSX catalog and be picking parts from it for this engine? I am guessing yes, becuase you are switching out the ECu as well right? I would like to see some dollar numbers here. I am really chomping at the bit and I really want more power! Also, how easy would it be in finding a K20? Also, what could I do with it for HP numbers? I am not that informed of this stuff. ALSO, is there anyone with the brains to do something like this in Edmonton?

Okay before anyone goes and gives me threads to look at, i have looked at them and to me, it seems like a lot of bullshit and problems to go through in order to get a K20 installed. Say roughly, you spend around 10Gs. Doing the math tells me My car tally would come to 30Gs. Which brings me pretty close to a price of an RSX type-s. So how is this cheaper? Remember that I am in no way going to do this without some professional help and in my garage. I would rather leave it in the hands of someone who knows how to do it. So I think 10Gs is a pretty good number to be looking at, right? This would include labour, doner car, parts etc. That is if I can find one for cheap.

your also talking K20a2 right. PE-tuning told me roughly $10Gs. Engine, tranny, etc. alone $6-8Gs.

case in point. I am leasing my civ right, so how does this make any sense to do an engine swap? I was going to buy it out after the 3rd year, but maybe I swap for a RSX type s?

think about this, do u want to be known as the guy with the crazy sleeper civic with the k20 swap? or the guy that has an rsx like alot of ppl. going out and buying another rsx, y not just go out and spend a little more and buy a used s2000? it all depends on how you look at it. your civic with a swap will grab more attention and jaw droppers then your type s rsx....

TurboCharged is nice, but not as nice as a Supercharger. Problem with a supercharger is that they are WAY expensive to buy, and just about as expensive to install... But, to have a sleeper I'd do it.

That's just me tho, I'm a little off the wall.

Just talked to a friend of mine and he said he could get me stock Honda Mag Rims for 400 dollars... Is it worth it to get those and ditch the stock black ones?

Not -too- expensive, if you look at the Jackson Racing one for the 99-00 Si its only $2995, thats about on par w. a turbo kit, by the time you're done w. fuel management and setup and everything they come out to about the same. Not to mentiont that the new Si responds very well to supercharging it would seem, esp. the JR one, sorry, tangent..*drool*..

turbo always comes out to the same as a swap. add in all the little things and extra maintenance i would rather swap.

Mm, longevity-wise, swap is always better, after a while turbos need rebuilds and in between then and when you install it countless things can go wrong, some of them involving things catching fire or exploding.

Nothing is an exact science... Swapping requires a lot of modifications and hidden extras. Turbos seem to always buildup on themselves(exhaust, intake, BOV, intercooler, fuel management, etc...). I still say your best option is buying the RSX-S because it's stock... It's the least trouble and the most stress-free decision.
