Civic and a Tiburon At A Stop Light

If anyone around here knows the light on Rabbit Hill Road by Riverbend Square leading towards 23rd that has the lane that ends that people tend to try to race ahead of you and cut you off on then bear with me.

I was driving home earlier tonight and I was in front of this particular light on the stop line when a Tiburon GT V6 pulls up about 10ft behind me and waits there for the light to turn hoping to cut me off. I decided to see what the lil Vic could do before I traded it in and mashed the brake so as to brake torque it a lil bit (I drive an auto.) when the light turned green he spun his tires on the gravel and I pulled ahead and then he shifted gears and gained about a half car on me and I decided to let him in because his lane ended in about 20ft.

Thing is, I was expecting to lose by more than half a car to a 2.7L V6 (172 hp, 181 torque) car. Apparantly they're rather heavy and I suppose he may have been driving a slush box, but still, being almost beaten by an auto. Civic Si. is pretty bad. Anyone have any experience w. Tiburons?

I wasn't going to, but I wanted to know whether I was racing a GT V6 or the I4 base model, because I was pretty surprised

I think the I4 models still have the dual exhaust outlets, so outside wise, both models look similar. I think the badging is the only difference. The V6, 3023LBS and only 172HP, doesn't sound like a fast car. The I4 is 2997lbs and 138HP, even worse off. They're both heavy. In your race, being 10ft back, he sure didn't do a good job of launching. If he anticipated the lights better you'd have no chance. It sounds like you did the right thing by torquing up before the light changed.

I have never had any Tiburons beat me off the line but I haven't raced many either.

Yeah, the drivers here are insane, I had a giant SUV, a Toyota Sequioa I think, maim me off the line at that same intersection, all 5270lbs of it, 4WD, launching that big 4.7L V8, it made a damn terrible sound...
