What gauges do you need(?) with a turbo?

If you need any, what are they? I would assume a boost meter... anything else?

If so, why?

Thanks.

You'll definitely need a boost gauge...reason for this is you don't wanna be boost'in over 7 or 8 PSI of boost to those stock internals....results are catastrophic....Second, you'll need a turbo timer, you don't want your turbine to heat up....when you shut your motor, it will keep it running for a set period of time to get the oil circulating till it cools.....And if you got an AUTO like I do, you need a transmission temp guage....Everything else would be asthetics unless you runnin NOS....But thats another thread..........I hope this helpz

I swear if you people dont stop saying this gauge im gonna go nuts!

For a Turbo you need Boost, EGT, Oil Pressure.

Fuel pressure wouldnt hurt either.

^^ umm you need the air fuel ratio gage if you plan on tunign your turbo kit yourself. The A/F gauge is much more accurate then a pyrometer (EGT).

You know what where is my tack hammer so i can crack your skull with it.

You think an A/F gauge running off a stock 02 senors is better for tuning then an EGT??!

Holy **** you kids need to stop huffing paint. A/F gauges running of your stock 02 sensors are NOT accurate for tuning anyone who thinks they are has serious issues.

NEXT

I would take an EGT over any of the GReddy, Defi, Autometer etc A/F Gauges for tuning.

The ONLY type of A/F gauge that works for tuning is a WIDEBAND 02 sensor this what they use on a dyno only a half witted chimp would think a a/f gauge running off a stock 02 should be used for tuning.

How come cars that come with factory turbos don't have all those extra gauges? Is it cuz their transmission and whatever is already set up to deal with the turbo?

agreed. a/f meters are crap and good for all of NOTHING when tuning. if you want to drop the cash on a wideband, that's a whole different story.

since i really doubt most people are going to pony up the cash for a wideband, an egt is one of the best gauges you could possibly have on a turbo vehicle if for nothing else than knowing when you NEED to let off (so you don't blow it up)

Exhaust Gas Tempature.

The higher the number the more lean you are running the lower the number the more rich you are its been awhile since ive messed with a turbo car so as for which numbers mean you are running a good mix i couldnt tell you.

If your numbers get to high your pistons are about to melt and destroy your engine.

An EGT sensor reads exhaust temperature..A/F gets readings from an O2 sensor....O2 sensor reads oxygen content in exhaust gas....but not efficient unless you have a wideband O2....Pricey!!! buy it if your racing your car.....at the track!! not for everyday use.....We were all noobz at one tyme....Guyz correct me if I'm wrong!!!!!

actually a wideband 02 is fine for everyday use if you have a modified car with turbo or high compression N/A, Nitrous, S/C

knowing your A/F is a good thing scooting around town, going ***** out at the track and of course tuning your car.
