turbo questions
alright heres the sob story, I'm tired of having a car thats slower then a school bus
I was going to trade my 01 in for a 01 gti 1.8 but we just took a 18% pay cut at work
so I can't justify a new car.. I was planning on doing a k20 swap in 3 years when I had the car paid off but patience has worn out I'm going with the turbo.
So here are the questions which I understand may be hard to answer giving how new a turbo kit system for our cars is. So will a turbo shave the years off my car.. I've read other stories of people with turbos on other cars having nothing but problems. How much does it usually cost to install one of these guys. I'm real eager to start putting away for a kit but I'm a little tentative since I know so little about engines.. though I'll be teaching myself all that I can if a turbo is the route I decide to take.
Let me know your opinions.
Thanks

Head over to skunk2 and look at their dyno charts. I realize our cars are not DOHC, but there are gains to be had on our D17s. Things are slowing coming out for our engine. Look at crower, they finally have rods out, turbodiscounters.com has pistons, and I read somewhere very recently someone is coming out with a brand new camshaft for our engines within 4 months!!!
Just a new camshaft alone should give you another 10 whp! If you some more ponies without having to do an engine swap or turbo, this is a good alternative, you just have to wait for the items.
