New member with 01 LX

Hello, just bought a 01 lx auto for my daughter. Thinking of swapping a 2013 engine that is mint. Unfortunately it has an auto ecu and auto tranny. If anyone can tell me where to find factory manuals for 2001 and 2013 that will be appreciated very much. I'm new to the world of civics bc I have been a nissan enthusiast since the 80's.

Re: New member with 01 LX

don't think anyone have tried to do a '13 engine in a 01, they are very different animals... not worth the job either for the small gains.
don't expect too many people to come see what's going on in the off-topic portion of the site either...

Re: New member with 01 LX

Factory manuals for 2013 are only on the internet.
No paper manuals anymore, they were far too reliable.

Re: New member with 01 LX

if it's for your daughter are you two modding it for track use or modding for show... or why are you modding at all.

if this is just so she can drive it for normal road use, why arn't you just leaving the stock engine in?

Nissans are pretty dope if you are modding together why not build a 240 or silvia (rwd!)?

Re: New member with 01 LX

Thanks for the input guys. Why am I thinking of modding? That's a good question she said it's slow and I saw a mint '13 engine and auto trans complete with harness and ecu for a very reasonable price. I think "small gains" is right. I bought the civic mainly for the mpg not performance. I believe with the '13 and manual trans it will be decently quick. I do have a spare sr20 and trans I could toy with putting in the civic that will make it a 15.5 sec car at least but the mpg will be just around 30. I'm thinking with the '13 civic engine in a 2400 pound 01 lx i should get high thirties mpg. As of modding a 240sx, sorry I don't have one and don't have a garage that I can put it in. I wouldn't want to drive a 240 in snow and rust it out. My daily is my VE'd se-r and I have enough trouble fighting the rust. Right now I'm only thinking of the swap have not made up my mind yet so readers , I can't promise a detailed log of what it takes to make the swap. My friend is a pro welder so fab work should not be too much of an issue, but again , I'm just thinking for now. I appreciate the input though so thanks, and in the spirit of thanksgiving day, have a great turkey day everyone.

Re: New member with 01 LX

remember that when 2006 came, the engines changed from D17 to R18, they are really quite different, including camshaft chains instead of belts, among other stuff. '13 even have integrated exhaust/intake if i am not mistaken.
you would better off swapping a D17A2 head in, some electronic work VAFC or EX car ECU and wiring the VTEC and dropping a crower Stage 1 CAMshaft in - these are the easiest and most worthwhile mods for a 01 LX (non-vtec)

or find an EX manual instead (before she gets overly attached to the car) and drop the crower cam in. (which is exactly what i did and don't regret any, even with the loss of 2 doors)

Doesn't the 13' Si have a K in it (K24)? He could use that. Would fit better then the R.

Re: New member with 01 LX

I like sdaidoji's answer now that I know you're looking for a bit of power plus fuel efficiency. I'm also running the crower stage 1 and in an auto d17a2.

Installation is easy and the power is nice, not fast but quicker, especially if you cut weight but since hers is a DD you'll probably keep stock weight.

Why yes, yes it does. With a 6 speed.

Actually, it's only incorporated the exhaust manifold into the head, same as what they did in the 06 Civic.

Re: New member with 01 LX

Yea.. that way if your exhaust manifold cracks you have to buy a new head. What a stupid money grabbing design.

I haven't seen a single one of these (over the entire car line ) crack since they started doing it.

As far as I can tell, this design is far more reliable than an actual separate manifold.

EDIT: Besides, it's done for emissions purposes.

no one have a slight idea of what would be required to install that K (no idea if it have differences with the other K's).

I still say get an EX and drop crower camshaft.

Needs a direct infusion of ca$h!

Plus a lot of time, and a welder might be handy too.
