Ok so I am bored and nothing really going on in this site today so I am going to go ahead and start my build thread. I have to wait 1 more long month till I can get my swap but its going to be worth it especially since how long I have been waiting already.

I am going to be swapping into my ep3 a k24a1. But before I swap it in I am going to take the head off so I can do the vtec killer setup in it which requires me to have 1 extra k24a1 exhaust rocker on the intake side. And also to get the k24a2 cams and also the k24a2 valvetrain just to be safe. Once I get that done I will bolt the head back on and take my k20a3 out and take the tranni off it and put it on the k24a1. Finally swap it into my car. I will also be getting kpro of course especially cause I have to have it to run this setup. But I will also be going with the kiddracing race header and I will be relocating my battery so that I can have a custom 3" CAI.

With this setup I am hoping to reach at least 210 whp and 200 trq, but if I reached higher than that would be great. Once I get the motor I will start finally documenting it so everyone can see.

ok now i have a question. i am debating on either the k24 swap or just going ahead and swapping in a manual tranny and then turboin my d17. which is the better and more cost effective route?

Ya I will keep you guys up to date on everything. I am going to document every little thing.

You can turbo the car and everything and have a good amount of hp but it will not be as realible as you want. You can have like 15 psi and running over 250 probably but will not be reliable and probably will need to build the head alittle bit. And this will cost a pretty penny.

The k swap will also be a pretty penny as well. But you can get a k24a2 or k20a2 and be running about 230 whp with just bolt ons and kpro. This will be reliable to cause it is stock. Either way is your choice though.

If your are wanting more power then go with the k swap. And no your tranni will not bolt up to the k24, you will have to buy a k series tranni.

I've wanted to see someone do a vtec killer setup on a k24. It was all the rage on ephatch for a while but between site crashes and time passing no one seemed to do an actual build thread. I don't recall any of them doing it on a k24 either. Keep us updated.

There was a build thread on there for the k20a3 before the big crash this year. It sucks that it was lost but there are a couple of people on there running the vtec killer in the k24a1 and some in the k20a3. I think the only thing with the k20a3 is that the rocker arms needed to be shaved alittle for the k20a2 cams. Here is a link to where there was a video posted that showed a dyno of one of the k24a1. Go look at post #6. He put down 210 whp with 183 trq.

ok so the tranny on the k24 will fit our cars? and do i have to remove everything from my engine bay to fit the motor? or can i still have all the nices.lol

lol will the tranny just bolt up to my axels? or will i have to swap those too? and for a manual trany i will still have to get the driver side one cause i have a auto. is that correct?

I am not sure. I think they might be alittle bigger but not sure. And ya the axles are flipped in the k series cause of they are backwards. I will have to go look that up and see.

Lol anyway I cant wait to get this build going. I have someone lined up to sell me the k24a1. He is a friend of mine and he is giving me a great deal. I am also right now looking into finding the extra exhaust rocker and k24a2 cams and valvetrain for fairly cheap. Been looking on k20a.org and found maybe 1 or 2 selling the cams. No luck on the rocker arm yet. But I have a while to look though.

Turbo is probably going to be a while actually. After I get done with this build I am going to start looking for me a 1989-1997 (NA) mazda miata. Once I get it I will be building it for auto x. After I am done with that I will probably turbo the EP.

Ya I actually have looked on there a little. Didnt really come up with anything. Besides I think most salvage yards wouldnt want to take something out of a perfectly good motor when they can sell the whole thing.

6 speed trans are under 1k used
a DC5R trans is around 1200 or so used.

Why? If I'm wrong I have nice people like you to correct me.

As to the trans, I misspoke. AROUND HERE the only 6 speed available under $1000 has 170K. I would much rather spend another $500-1000 more for a trans with less than half the mileage but, you do what you want. Around here the 5 speeds ARE $400-600.

Thats not a bad price for the a2 especially since you get everything with it. The only thing they had wrong is that the k20a2 does not come with lsd tranni.
