Ex Engine Swap Need Ecu Help!!
Ex Engine Swap Need Ecu Help!!
Ok This is What I have I just swaped my non vtec lx engine for a vtec ex
I have an ecu but honda says that the only way I can get it to run is to buy a new ecu and new keys. So I guess what I'm asking is. Is there anybody on here who has done a complete engine/wiring harness swap. And if they have been able to get it to work with a used ecu. any info Please
Thanks

Re: Ex Engine Swap Need Ecu Help!!
yes, u can use a used ecu, but u have to get the key reflashed, like 180 bucks at honda, and u have to get an ex harness too, and it makes a difference between if u have a manual or automatic... there is an easier way however, all u have to get is the apexi VAFCII, a vtec controller, and do the "headswap" diy for it, its not hard, but much cheaper than the ecu and harness
Re: Ex Engine Swap Need Ecu Help!!
Well thanx for the reply I already installed the harness it came with the engine and it was for a manual trans like mine the ecu is for a manual as well but the ecu is out of an hx vtec is that going to be a problem?
Re: Ex Engine Swap Need Ecu Help!!
Ok let me see if I get it all so what I need to do is buy a ex ECU install it then tow it to honda and get the KEY reflashed not the ECU. Am I right or not. boy you think that jackass at honda would have told me that when I talk to him on the phone.
Re: Ex Engine Swap Need Ecu Help!!
Holy cow.
Let me clear some things up. You don't HAVE to have an ex harness for this swap. You also don't HAVE to tow the vehicle to the dealerhsip. You can run on the non vtec ecu with a CEL and swap the ECU's once you get there instead of spending 100+ on towing costs.
Also, you aren't programming a key. You're programming the immobilizer to work with your key and your ecu together. When things are changed where the immobilizer doesn't recognize them, it has to be reprogrammed to accept them.

Thanks for the info
Re: Ex Engine Swap Need Ecu Help!!
Nothing wrong with the EX harness. It makes life easier, just saying you don't have to spend the money on it if you are savvy with wiring.
Re: Ex Engine Swap Need Ecu Help!!
here is a way to go from lx to ex with simple wiring... when i get the parts for my ex head im probably going to be the 1st to try it unless someone else does.. just in case anyone was wondering
