Confused as Helll!!!!!
Ok i need to get some things straight cuz im so confused about boosting its not even funny. Ive been reading andyman's thread on turbo for d17 and may i say its very well put together thread with tons of info i would have otherwise not known about. His car seems to be running 300 something ponies with boost, a number wich i respect. Now he mentioned that he started off boosting on a stock d17a1 and had 240ish whp at 13.5 psi, can this be even possible since i heard that d17 seals and internals start to blow at around 10 psi? SEcondly, there are people in here that ive seen who have build their lower end with pistons and rods and have only been able to atain 210ish whp. Can somebody explain to me what work exactly i would be looking at to getting 240ish hp which is all i really want? I apologize in advance if somebody already asked this question but i read through the turbo faqs and still cant find answers to my question.
Re: Confused as Helll!!!!!
it totally depends on what your tune is. I ran a stock lower end for a while with ARP rod bolts and a block guard to about 250whp. I finally tore it down again last night and everything checked out fine. I have an AEM ems though, I'd never try that on an E-manage. A good conservative tune should be fine for about 200-220whp on a stock gut provided you have all good supporting fuel mods.

Re: Confused as Helll!!!!!
see the thing is, i would love to turbo my car as well and shoot for 220-240hp... but i hate having to use premium gas.. yea call me cheap..
sorry to get off topic, but yea i heard if u run stock internals, once u hit a certain psi mark, it wont be pretty, see thats y 02fpcivic built his upper end.

might i also add...u should put a tthe end of ur statement "Can somebody explain to me what work exactly i would be looking at to getting 240ish hp which is all i really want..." FOR NOW lol...once u hit that goal...ur going to want more. good luck and apparently it has to do with tuning and fuel. anybody can build their internals with money, but tuning it juusssttt right is what makes the difference between sweet power and godly power.

I appreciate all ure input guys, the thing is right now i just want 220-240ish whp to indimidate certain idiots on the street who think their ride is the **** lol. Ya call me stupid for trying to prove myself but cmon lets admit to ourselves that we are guys and its our nature lol. But ya anyway, what kind of fuel mods am i looking at for that HP goal? thanks in advance guys.

Horsepower is fun. I like turbos, they're cool.
All depends on how you build your turbo. Our intake mani's are sketchy above 10 psi, so most folks swap them out, and the injectors and fuel rail with it. That will determine your choice of injectors. Most folks make due on their stock intake mani with RSX-S injectors (310cc) which will on the high side of OK for your goals. I would honestly go with 450 or 550cc injectors on the off chance that you want more than 220-240whp further down the road. This leaves you room to grow. I went with the RSX-S's myself, and I know I'll be selling them as soon as I bomb-proof my bottom end to hit 350 at the wheels.
You will need to upgrade your fuel pump (the Walbro 255 l/hr is a popular upgrade) and convert to a return fuel system. Neither of which are terribly difficult to accomplish if you have access to tools.

Everything you want to know is somewhere in the turbo kit faq. I even list out all parts needed for that hp number. If you do a SEARCH you can even find the old dyno sheet and every part I was running to reach 247 whp.
