The need for more power!
The need for more power!
Ok, first off, I have an 04 lx sedan with I/H/E and hopefully by the end of this month will have the ex head installed and ready to go. I know after that I will still be power hungry. I do not want the trouble of swapping engines and I really don't feel comfortable with using turbos, so I'm thinking about putting a supercharger on my engine. I've already searched google and the Jackson Racing site, and it seems that nobody makes a supercharger for our D17 engine. Just wondering if anybody on this site has installed a supercharger for the D17 because I heard that we can use the one made for the D16. Just wanting to get my facts straight so I can start looking at all my options. I don't plan to get the supercharger (if one even exists for my engine) until next year. Thanks for the help guys!
Re: The need for more power!
Eh cuz then I'll only get the HP for bursts at a time and thats no fun. I might as well go turbo then, prolly end up being cheaper than a custom fabricated supercharger. with my income, I'll have my turbo in 3 years! woot.

Re: The need for more power!
how about you search for supercharger and see that every single thread the topic starter started has been bashed and the thread closed
Re: The need for more power!
How about the chance that a company could have started to make a supercharger for our engines? Couple years back the K-swap in our engines were unheard of, people ask questions, thats how people learn. Now its done left and right. Maybe you were born with the all knowing wisdom of the civic. Grats.
Re: The need for more power!
first of all both of you shut up. the only way your going to be satisfied is with a k swap or another car. the d17's suck. then again just about any SOHC motor does.
Re: The need for more power!
You answered your own question right there. Thats why nobody bothers with them. To set one up would be as much work and money as a turbo and on these smaller motors would probably yield much lower power gains due to the parasitic loss of driving the supercharger. The reason this fella is bashing on you is because a million people have asked this question already, hehe. Honestly if you are on a budget, nitrous is the best bang for the buck on one of these things.

Re: The need for more power!
Well looking at the Jackon site, the superchargers that they sell for the D16's get a pretty good HP and torque gain. And the kit being less than 2k really got me interesting. Turbo's go for 3k+ and i think thats too much money on my engine. If I knew that everybody was so anti supercharger I wouldn't have asked my question. thanks for the input guys.
Re: The need for more power!
Im not anti-supercharger by any means. Everything has its place, I just dont see it being a smart road to go down in this situation. It will definetely not be close to 2k to charge your car. Nothing is ever cheap. Those prices are great marketing tools but those who have been around can see through the hype and bullshit that these companies use to fill their pockets. Reality is, unless you are really dedicated to this motor for some reason, its not work having crazy money into. At least a nitrous kit can come off and get put in another car or get sold to almost anyone.
Re: The need for more power!
^^ Agreed. I'll look into a small NOS kit then. Anybody suggest a good kit to go with? I'll prolly just put stage 1 cams and camgear, then NOS. After that I guess I'll start saving up for cosmetics.
