Y8 Intake manifold Q, for those who done it!

I am looking foward doing an intake manifold swap (d16y8) but the Y8 manifold don't have the EGR return channel, like on the D17 intake manifold (see black channel on the pic).

What did you do about it? No CEL showed up?

I am in the process of doing the swap and not having the channel won't cause you a problem. The channel serves as an equalizer for the airflow into the intake side of our head or in other words the channel was Honda's answer to crappy engineering.

So this is not the EGR return??? where is he located then?

Are you sure?

The pics is from a 2003 civic. Some member said that they didn't have the channel. In what year did Honda introduce those airflow equalizer?

I have yet to see a stock intake for the 7th gen that didn't have the channel/equalizer. And our cars don't have an egr valve that I am aware of.

Bump.... back from the dead!

So, anyone with a d17a2 did the Y8 swap? What did you do with the EGR channels?

I did some reading, and everybody say that if you have a EGR valve you need it to be working, if not you'll have a CEL! And the EGR should increase power (a little bit) on our D17...

So I am stuck... what should I do with this EGR???

Could I simply direct it directly in the inatke manifold?

HELP!

This is a good question. I always thought that the EGR took away power.

d17a1 has no egr, d17a2 does. You know, I never had a cel from the egr with the y8 manifold....

On 2004-2005 (maybe 2003)... I guess the EGR was added on the D17a1... or maybe on Canadian engine only???

Nevertheless, I got one on my D17a1 like on this pics of a a1btw that's not my engine):

Personnaly, I decided to cut the D16y8 flange of the IM and weld the D17 plate on it. A bit like this other member did with a gsr manifold:

That way I won't have any problem! (I hope!!!)

Re: Y8 Intake manifold Q, for those who done it!

I've never taken off the intake manifold, the stock d17 manifold has a metal plate between the plastic manifold it self and the block? Is this correct?

Has anyone else done the cut and weld route? How did it work out?

Re: Y8 Intake manifold Q, for those who done it!

Yes the D17 has an injector plate the the injectors drop in to that is a separate piece from the IM and the head.

Cut and re-weld should work just fine as long as the TB plate is done the same way and the IACV holes on the back of the IM are blocked or filled.

01-02 dx/lx is the only car that was missing egr valve. all 01-05 ex and 03-05 civic has egr.
