Rep Power: 0 why all that just for a manual? honestly, u are better of selling your ride and buying a stick shift. u will run into problem in the future with the swap and ur car will never be in great condition again.

Rep Power: 260 a trans swap should cost $1000 at the most. a k is 5 times more than that.......maybe he doesnt have an extra 5 grand to throw around
your best bet is to just go to every junkyard around you and grab parts. i started to look, but gave up and bought new wheels

Rep Power: 0 im only 17 and cant afford a k20 at the moment.. i just want a stick car.. and no im not gonna sell my car.... the experince of doing it will last for my lifetime
and im not looking to go fast.. i like to do a little autocross and want a stick so i can make use of my powerband
ive been reading up on all things i could search
i just need answers to this
do you really need a manual tranny ECU? do you need the engine harness and dash harness? on this car is it nessecary to cut the floorpan to accomidate the shifter assembly?
and if possible est prices on all the parts ive listed above?
haha yea i dont have much.. as i said earlier im 17 working and not getting more than 400 a month.
i live in hawaii (kauai to be exact) and theres only 1 junkyard here.. i go there weekly to see if theres anything available.. there once was a blue em2 stick there.. but i was only 14 haha and didnt think about doing this yet
and adding to that, since i live in hawaii shipping is gonna be rape.. so might as well make that $1000 estamite to $1500 just for shipping

Rep Power: 287 prices on those are going to vary man. It depends how patient and how good you are in finding these parts. I'v known a guy who got all those parts for 500 bucks.
i've heard you don't really need a manual ECU, but its recommended. Why leave that part out when diong all this other stuff? makes no sense right.

Rep Power: 231 i also drive an auto but the cost of swapping just the tranny isnt worth it. d17s, auto or stick, is still slow unless its turbo'd. save ur money for a k20a3 if ur on a budget. its one of the cheapest k20s but u still get decent gains.

Rep Power: 267 You dont really need a manual ecu in order for it to work, I have a buddy that swapped his auto to manual and is still running his auto ecu. Its been a year now and no problems. As far as the cluster, you can still use your auto cluster, only difference is the P R N D D3 2 will be there thats it. and no you do not need a new dash harness or whatever.
And yes, people have tried to build the D17, the problem is... the amount you have to spend in order to see any gain is not worth it. Thats why no one bothers.

ya if u auto-x like in a parking lot without much stright what u gonna do with all that power?
also.. does the engine need to be removed to do this swap or can it be done w/o removing the engine? or is it too hard to do it w/o removing the trans?
can the a/c compressor be pushed back w/o removing anylines so i can reconnect it w/o recharging if i do need to remove the engine?
i just realized, if we swap out ECU's our immobilizer will be fuked!
some1 said u can run a auto ecu.. i wil probabaly do that to reduce the issues

I DIDNT REALY PAY ATTENTION TO THE D BLINKING BUT FOR US AUTO'S YOU HAVE TO ADRESS A WIRING ISSUE FOR THIS. I HAVE AND IT WORKED. YOULL FIND IF YOU DONT, YOUR KEY WILL BE STUCK IN THE IGNITION BECAUSE THE CAR THINKS YOUR IN R,N,OR D. ITS A SIMPLE FIX.
whats the fix?

i wouldn't remove the engine. just take the wheel well off and try to work w/o taking it out. i'm probably gonna be doing my swap the same week you are. i'm just saving up and trying to get parts. thanks for the rep.

Rep Power: 325 There shouldn't be an actual "dash harness" specifically for the transmission type. The ecu wires that control the multiplex will relay the same information but the display will be different based on the cluster you have.
The engine harness may be a different story. I would think that you would probably need a manual's engine harness due to the variable transmission and the different controls on the ecu...but then again, you may be able to just leave that clip unplugged. The ecu is a must.
What I would do if I were doing this swap is search www.car-part.com and find a salvage yard that has basically an entire manual civic that has all required trans. parts in tact and swing a deal with them for all the parts you will need. See if you can get away with like 300-350 or something for everything and save yourself money and time.... These parts are so readily available, believe that they don't move fast and you shouldn't have a problem finding a yard that will hook you up.

Rep Power: 258 in the middle of the swap now you dont need the dash wiring or engine wiring...
you dont need to cut a hole in the floor either every civic was made for manual and has all the cutouts/hole for the pedals and wut not already in the car everything bolts on..
