Hey...i am boosting D17 with stock internals...so i was wondering if i can add another headgasket to lower the engine compression as it will create more space between the head and the piston...infact another of my friend did the same on d16y8...he didnt get any problem with that...what do you think?? Will it add to the performance or rob it??

It's been known to be done and yes it will lower compression. I don't recommend it though. If you do do it, make sure to torque down the head a extra 5lbs.

Don't skimp. True lowering of compression is done through pistons. They are only $549.00 for the set. You will have much more reliability and piece of mind knowing it's done right.

Hahahah yeah ONLY 549 i love how Paul says that....but he is right. I really don't think the head would seal properly if you do this...you could try it but if your serious about reliability and power just put in rods and pistons spend the extra 2 grand to be sure.

it will work for a short period of time. torque it once, and when it starts to seal up the head will be loose and ull have to retorque. the risk of blowing it greatly increases. and somewhere along the line i was told that doing that will also throw off the timing, ie increasing the distance the head sits on the block and using the same timing belt.

^^^ I doubt such a small increase in length could mess up the timing....but the point is i guess you shouldn't do this unless you have time to be messing around with your car.

That's why we have tensioners that allow adjustment of the tension on the belt.

Either way, its not going to last or seal properly....save yourself time and frustration.
