if its a threaded fitting, use the smallest one you can use but still barely get the fitting through. if its a weld in fitting, then just make a hole smaller than the outer diameter of the fitting.

hydroflare is an unknown quantity at this point
the hole in the oil pan should match the size of your oil return flange. it is best to weld it so it wont leak or come loose.

Who cares what size drill bit you need. Just measure outsde diameter of a fitting and here you go. You've just successfuly found the minimal diameter of a drill bit for the job.

if you are going to thread it in, find out what thread the fitting is, then go buy the tap for it. The tap will have what sized drill bit to use printed right on the side of it. They are pretty much "idiot proof" if you follow the directions.

^^
Its kind of paste/glue, as good as welding, but its not actualy a weld. This is what I was going to use, but tsi comes as threaded fitting, so i just tight it good and used gasket maker to secure the nut and area to prevent untigtening and leakege. Works very well so far.
Either way is good.

nothing is as good as physically welding the material together.

JB weld is just a good way to get out of a fix when you cant weld something, or cant get into an area to weld it.
