Building Boost Question
Just driving around recently ive noticed that i don't really build up boost in 1st. Well it does but only at higher RPM's. Seconds is a little better in building boost, its more noticable but dosen't seem like it builds all that much. 3rd 4th and even 5th are the only gears where it actually seems like it really builds up boost. I'm guessing because 1st and 2nd are shorter gears than 3-5 and by the time it builds up and i notice it on the guage i have to shift. BTW dx tranny w/D17a2 on 9psi.

Well I don't know how into this I want to try and guess because I'm going at this from a general approach since I'm not exactly the turbo expert, but just the inertia to get the wheel up to speed is probably to blame. 80-100K RPMs is obviously pretty fast, and it takes some time to get there. From a relative dead stop of the wheel (idle) it takes some time to get it running fast enough to build pressure, it kinda falls off (shift) picks back up a little quicker in 2nd because it's already partly spooled, then by 3rd you got it running where it should. If the turbo is Ball bearing, the effect should be lessened because the BB turbos have a lot less friction than the journal bearing units.

heh... i have to drive like a grandma to NOT build boost. I can be on the freeway crusing at 2000rpm and just throttle it a bit and im in boost at about 2200rpm. And under normal accleration i usually build boost at 2500 ish. I find it harder to NOT build boost than to build boost
Not sure if its cause im auto and GT28R or not but its almost too much boost too soon hahaha...

a turbo is load related. In 1st gear, you have waaaay less load than in 2nd gear. Also, the turbo doesnt go through the RPM range as fast. The faster you go through the RPM range, the less time the turbo has to spool up.
think of it like this...
spoolup requires work*time
so if it takes 2 seconds at 2000 RPM to spool up, then it would obviously spoolup in 2nd at a lower RPM than first because it is at that 2000 RPM for less time in first gear, than it is in 2nd.
does that make any sense? If not, i have been on pain killers all day long. I am having a hard enough time typing, let alone putting together coherent sentences and structured explanations.....

On my t25 1st gear is useless. Tires spin like mad. Cant even tell when boost comes up, I have small assss boost gauge.
On a HWY in the 5th gear I'm at full boost by 3000rpm.
Anyone know how to fix traction issue??

well, ford probe GT's came with turbos for quite a few years...
the probe GT turbo is similar to a T25. it is made by ihi and flows quite a bit of air compared to others its size

Last gen probes were turbo'd by Mazada 2.2, same as 1st gen mx-6.
1989-1992 1st gen probes were 2.2 n/a, 2.2 turbo and 3.0 v6
1993-1997(?) 2nd gen were 2.0 n/a and 2.5 n/a v6
...but who cares about ford in this thread???....
Turbo is fun.
dang i never knew ford sold turbo probes. never heard of anyone talk about it. i guess in detroit it's all about the big engine cars and fords SVT cars. i don't even see probes on the street anymore. i'm going to try to find one of thoes turbo probes

Its completely normal.
In my 100% stock 05 legacy GT with 6000 miles (put on in the last month by me) Hits 13.5 in 1st, and tapers off a little, but raises .5# every gear.
It is normal. Dont worry about it, thats how it works. You will make more boost in the higher gears. 3rd is always a blast!

you might want to check to make shure you dont have an exhaust leak. if your leaking any where before the turbo you will increase turbo lag i had a simular problem and when i investigated i found that out of the 4 studs holding the turbo to the mani 2 of them had snaped off.
