defective emanage? weird problems, need help.
ok, so i installed my emanage today to get a head start on my turbo install. I mounted the unit under the passanger seat and ran the wires up to the ecu, connected, soldered, taped, and started the car. cool. Car runs normally, no CEL, etc. Except...the emanage didnt look happy.
-turn the ignition on the first time: no green light, interaction light is on...suddenly red light starts blinking rapidly.
-turn ignition off then back on: red light gives me code 14, bad vtec input...i didnt connect vtec...i have a non-vtec motor.
-turn the ignition back off and back on: Green light is on and so is interaction.
PC is not connected at this time.
connection to PC went like this; I hooked up the emanage to serial to usb plug to laptop. turned car on, loaded support tool. says 'offline'
did a search and turns out the COMM settings were wrong on the support tool. Tried doing it again, it now says im 'online' but wont do the main unit update. Someone clue me in, do i have a defective emanage? does it make sense that the interaction light is on eventhough I havent connected it to a computer?
edit: rotary settings are 4-8-c and the jumpers are all at default.

double checked the jumpers before it went it. I asked someone with actual experience with the emanage and he says its normal for the green light to be on and interaction light to blink while the engine is running...so I guess mine is behaving correctly. I cant explain the events up to this point, but my only options left are trying different serial to usb adapters. I think this is the problem because the support tool says im online as long as the adapter is plugged in...even if the emanage isnt. i dunno wtf is going on.
i used rotary dials 4-8-c and didnt connect any vtec wires. the vtec doesnt seem to work on the new cars i think. i think its cause the vtec is a economy vtec or something. the greddy site doesnt say anything about connecting vtec on the manual either. also make sure your firmware is up to date on your emanage. my emanage was running like crap until i flashed the firmware to 1.48

vtec is not a concern...i dont have it. I did the software update and it helped a little. But I still can't get the support tool to update the firmware on the main unit. I just bought a pcmcia serial card on ebay for my laptop, Im going to try that out, I had no luck with 2 usb to serial adapters I bought. to make matters worse, the brand new desktop we have at my shop doesnt have a serial port on it.
I ran into the same problem and went nuts and apparently alot of people do cause I have helped like 10 people already. lol when you try to update the main unit it freezes in the middle. The usb to serial adapter that you have should have come with software to install(if nmot then thats fine too) well you have to go into you windows settings and be sure that the usb port on your laptop is using the same COM port number as the setting on support tool. If something else is on COM port 3 on your PC then be sure to switch it to another com port and put that usb port on com 3 then set the support tool to com 3 it should say online then update. then your crazy lights should be gone. when the emenage doesn't fully update it will lock up. it's def. not normal. If you have any other problems or questions PM me. I've been thru the ringer like the first few who used the emanage so I have hit alot of rough water like you.
hey got my and hooked it up to a 12v source and tried even different com
ports.but mine wont update main unit either.I did alot maileing with greddy
and tried stuff from the begin software and firmware to update version.
I will start updating but stops after 1 block upload and keeps counting the min.

^mine wouldnt even give me that much. I tried using multiple usb to serial adapters, had a computer tech sit in the car with me to try to figure out all the settings, and we were able to get online, but thats it. I bought a pcmcia to serial card for my laptop which will physically add a serial port to my laptops mobo, as opposed to going through the usb device. I figure if I can eliminate the usb adapter, i can eliminate the problem. Just waiting on a gender bender to come in since both ends of the serial cables are male
yeah man i am feeling you!!Dont know either what to do gonna let
a friend off a friend who is an electronic's guy take a look at it
maybe he finds something in the hay stagger.
I was so happy to have the emange from fi dx here on the forum,
in 3 day from CA to belgium.
All was wrapped up nice so not much there on getting demaged during transport.
sending it back to greddy to do a check and send it back cost a new one but i just want it to work.
damn this thing got my frustrated *** hell already a 5% of the turbo project.

The cd i got with it has 1.20 and 1.40 on it if you look at
greddy update at http://www.mohdparts.com/emanage/
then 1.20 and 1.40 are for the gold one.does any one has info
about it always been asking me that quistion.

I'm getting the same error code 14 on my LX, but I was able to update the firmware to v1.48 (my laptop has a serial port). Besides being annoying, doesn't seem to be causing any problems.
I'm using 4-8-C w/ jumpers set for VTEC.

just use the fix I said. I had the same problem I used 3 diff usb to serial adaptors and they all worked fine. it's the com setting that the usb port that your plugging the emenage into your laptop.

i wish i could help but my support tool was plug and play on both my desktop ( was in garage next to car) and my laptop...... Kinda hard to help via internet, but good luck. I would still think its either an adapter conflict or IRQ conflict
and what could be the problem if you got the main unit connected on serial
com port and set right.update start but only does 1 block update and then
it only keeps counting the min after min and doesnt update further?

it did it the first time i tried to connect to the laptop. turned the car off then back on...no problems.
So i tested it now by connectien the greddy main power source to a 12v
source.
The box has power and up and running so i installed the cd software again
that came with it.
I connect the the greddy usb - serial to my desktop.Open the sofware and
go to update the firmware and wel it starts updating 1 block and keeps
conting the mins...al lights seem right juist that interaction isnt blinking.
would a serial to usb adapter realy fix the problem?
