Fab guys... did anyone use an exhaust flex section?

Did anyone actually have to use one?
Just wondering, I've gotta hack the DP in front of the cat and weld it on, I know the flex section buys some fudge factor, but they tend to be the first thing to blow out when the exhaust goes. I'd much rather just weld it together pipe to pipe.
Also, anyone reciently measured the diameter of the stock DP and know offhand what it is?
I'm working on my stock order for charge pipes and exhaust...

i didnt have one at first, but when i got my new downpipe made, they put one in and i noticed a world of difference. the steering wheel used to shake alot before and with the flex pipe it didnt at all. there is alot of pressure going through the exhaust system and having a little room to bend and flex with the pipe allows it to adjust.

Yeah, I never used one before, either. I couldn't say a difference because I haven't put one in but, over time, I have noticed that my manifold bolts/nuts want to back out and so do my downpipe bolts. I will definitely be installing one once I start installing my next set of parts.

well it sounds like the right plan is to include one then...... I'll tack it onto the parts pile.

yeah Id get one man, I've seen downpipe and manifolds crack in long term situations. I would say it would be a cheap investment to put one one there.

BTW Justin your inlet flange is done and I just hafta finish the brackets on that intercooler when I get a minute. That inlet flange came out great too.

as far as how big the stock dp is, i dont know that for sure, but i do know that the stock exhaust is 1.5" and the downpipe is bigger then that. so, i would guess it is maybe 2" possibly...
