as for the 300 hp limit, thats just something ive read over the time ive been on here. ive also read older d-series trannys can supposedly line up, so maybe get the model tranny ur friend is running with and use that but i dont know about that fitment issue being true or not.

I have had the D16 tranny bolted up to the D17 block. It fits the same. You will just have to build a post shifter assembly and some custom shift rods.
Also, if you want a magic number for our tranny, i will say about 100 whp is where they will break. I have a stock D17A2 motor in my car right now with nothing but a GSR intake manifold and DC 4-1 stainless header. And my tranny is broke. The input shaft bearing can take ZERO abuse. I am willing to bet that most of you with a loud exhaust have a broken bearing. It is something that you cannot hear when you have the radio on, and cannot hear if your exhaust makes any noise.
If you can manage to not break the plastic cage on the bearing, then ill bet the tranny will hold up fine, at least for a while.
And quit giving andy such a hard time. ****, hes been on here doing this stuff forever. He was one of the first with an air-water intercooler. One of the first with the D16 intake manifold, and now one of the first with a functional AEM EMS.
****, just for spending that much money on the car you should give him some respect.
hey damn it lol I had my ems first. Yeah um.. does that bearing make a clicking sound on right hand turns lol. I might be going the d16 trans route before long. Do I need to do anything about axle fitment???

im not sure about axels for the D16 tranny.
All i did was bolt it to my motor.
and the shifter rods will be very hard to build. They have to go around the sway-bar. And that will be a PITA

yeah its not the axle, its in the tranny. it usually only does it in second. oh well ill find out when it breaks. I do metal fab as a trade and have access to mandrel benders, press brakes, all the good stuff so I could rig up the linkage but I dont wanna start hacking till I can be sure it will work, and that its beneficial to change it out.

Here's the diy:
Take the d17 intake manifold gasket. Fit the ports up to the d16 intake manifold. Drill out new bolt holes. Remove the studs on the head for the intake manifold.
Either fabricate or have a plate fabricated to allow you go fit your throttle body on the d16 intake manifold. If you use the d16 tb, you need to figure out a way to mount the IAC and you can use the d16 map either way.
Pretty easy.

does the throttle cable reach? or would you need a d16 one.
run into any problems with sensors?
is the d16 or d17 a better wider tb?
why remove studs on the head?
btw, thanks for being the first to finally give a straight simple answer.

Sensors...the tps rotates in a different direction on the d16 tb. You just have to figure out which way the wires go to keep from getting a cel. On my setup, I had the voltage reading 4.5 closed/.45 open (this is backwards on what the stock tps does but it works with no CEL.)
Not sure about tb size. I would imagine the d16 is prolly bigger.
There is very little clearance b/w the im and the firewall. I had to remove the studs to fit the manifold. Just use bolts all around instead.
oh andy. those are amazing numbers i dont care what anyone says. those are amazing i plan to build a custom turbo i just want to know in your opionon wish turbo would be best Gt28R or gt30R. what size downpiper you running 2.5 or 2.75

I'm running 2.5. I'd suggest the 28. I saw a d16 make 305 whp on 17 psi with a 28. I wish that turbo wasn't so ridiculously expensive, I'd pick one up. I'm sticking with the t3/t4 for now though. As far as downpipe goes, depends on what power level you're looking to make.
As far as turbos go, I'm actually selling my turbo and downpipe. If you're interested, hit me up.

Yes, it was with the EMS. It runs better than stock, assuming the tuner knows what he's doing and has experience with ems tuning. It's by far the best mod I have.
