jack: if the car wasn't already warm, vtec wouldn't engage. if you read already, I'm already using a high octane gas mixture.
drjciv: I'm using the factory type r clutch and fly ... but that's not gonna affect the dyno.
xprod: even playing with the intake still isn't going to change the fact that my dyno figures are only 5whp more than a bone stock type S. And that's with an intake, intake mani gasket and no power steering ... so really, they are on par with stock type S numbers.
I already know that dynos are supposed to measure gains and not actual power, but gains or not, when a dyno fluctuates 20 whp, that is something to think about.

I was just wondering about the clutch.
Your not the only one to complain about dyno jet dyno's.
Where are you at there are a lot of dyno shops here in so cal.
You may not want to take the #'s too seriously because aren't dyno jets usually used for mustangs?

^ dyno jets aren't bad. this particular one reads a little off, in my opinion. I'm gonna have to try a different one .. if that reads the same, then perhaps my particular engine is weak.
that dyno is only 15 min away ... there are a lot of dyno shops, but most are in riverside or la ... which are like an hour or more away.

Did you do a compression and leak-down test on the motor or did you just take the word of whoever you bought it from that the motor was in good condition? Your motor probably has 500,000 miles on it and is running on 3 cylinders.
I'm just kidding. I wouldn't put too much stock in dyno numbers. There are so many fluctuations in numbers from dyno to dyno that you can't quabble over 20 horsepower (It does feel good to get a high number to brag about on the internet, though). Also, Honda engines are known to be susceptible to poor performance due to high ambient temperatures (maybe not as bad as a turbo motor but you'll definately see a difference). Regardless, a stock (or lightly modified) K20A isn't going to put out great numbers. I hope you have big plans for that thing. Otherwise, it seems like kind of a waste of money.

^ I don't think it has very many miles on it. Japanese motors tend to have very low miles ... they don't have a 3000 mile country that they can cross like we do ;P
I was told it was from an 04 as well.
no, I haven't done a compression/leakage test ... perhaps I should one of these days.
another note ... I checked one of the spark plugs a few days ago ... one side of the top of it was black, the other side of it was white ... could that mean my injectors may be clogged?

on that same note, it doesn't make sense to calculate the base RSX's PS/HP correctly and severely over rate the type r.
135whp /157 BHP = 14%
165whp /216 BHP = 23%

doubledeuce: actually I inspected (only) one of my spark plugs ... half of the rim was black, half was white ... I don't understand ... maybe my injectors are clogged? ... I don't know what to think of that.

yeah, I'll try the fp60/lc20 stuff ...
denso and ngk plugs are already pre-gapped ... anyway, the one I pulled out, the gap looked fine. just some odd discoloration.
yeah I'll scan it on monday ... the lines are very wavy ... not smooth at all ... I don't know if that's normal or what

hey guys ... I don't know if this means anything ... I don't want to post in the street/track forum because I don't want to get flamed a crapload.
but I was driving in LA yesterday with ponychick (in my car) and there and I there was a blue Mustang Mach1 behind me. We both turned and he punched it next to me ... crazy. He had HUGE tires ... I am guessing 285+, exhaust and a LOUD supercharger... asian guy with a FAT smile on his face when I pulled up next to him.
I was checking his car out and he was revving ... then I saw his tires spinning .. oh ****! the light changed ... I did a hella quick (and bad) "launch" ... he ended up pulling a car off me straight off the line ... but by 75, he had pulled another car and a half... we both shutdown because of traffic ... but I'm surprised that he didn't pull as much as I thought he would. I think I could've taken him at the launch (had I been paying attention).
Either way, for a 400 something hp mach1, I'm rather proud of my little nearly stock 2.0L. I think we would've been even at 75 if I had my CAI, header and hondata. I'm sure with that much power, he'd pull on me eventually anyway, but still ;P
edit: I'm not saying I would be faster than a 400+ rwhp mustang ... I'm just saying that with that particular race, I'd be the better driver.

Ok, well onto mine.
Currently, the only mods I have are 17x7.5" SSR Competition rims, Nextgear intake mani gasket, ep3 AEM V2 intake. I got about 4 pulls in and got a best of 170.39 whp, 118.08 wtq. Temperature was 88 degrees F, Humidity 16%, SAE 1.00 (whatever that means) ... dyno run was a 4th gear pull. The lowest was 163 whp.
We then bolted up the Injen CAI from an rsx type S and after 4-5 pulls, I got a best of 178.43 whp, 123.66 wtq. The numbers never dipped below 170 whp. THIS PROVES THAT HEAT SOAK IS REAL to all you people that believe that SRI's are better than CAI's for HP. For that run, it was 93 degrees F, humidity 13%, SAE: 1.01. 4th gear pull again.
The dyno runs were done with the hood open and 2 large fans simulating driving conditions.
Another note ... today, I checked my spark plugs and realized that they were loose ... almost finger tight. I'm wondering if that also has anything to do with the dyno numbers reading low
