TSI problems (newbie)

Hi everyone,

Let me start off by saying that I'm fairly new at installing turbos on civics. I purchased the TSI Extreme Kit with Garrett T28BB turbo. I'm attempting to install the wires to the control unit now. The biggest problem that I'm having with it is that I can't find a good place to break through the firewall to get inside to the control box. Does anyone have a recommendation for a spot to get the wires inside? I'm thinking inside the glovebox would be a good place to mount the control box (MAP box), and then custom cut a hole in my dash for the display.

Any feedback would be great.

The only other problem that I'm having is that the downpipe is WAY too long to attach to my stock exhaust. However, I do have a DCsports cat-back coming on Friday. When I get my new exhaust on Friday, will it just need to be taken to a shop to get it put on?

Thanks a lot in advance,
A turbo-newbie,
Zach

Your exhaust situation can be resolved by a muffler shop no problem. Just make sure you have a catalytic converter otherwise most of them won't touch it.

As for your wiring, best luck. I'm still learning about the fuel system between a stock civic and what's necessary for running a boosted application.

Thanks a lot man. I was hoping a muffler shop would be able to take care of that problem for me. It puts my car out of use until this coming Friday but oh well. However, I think I found the place to go through. Behind the glovebox there is a hole that you can squeeze some wires through the gasket. If anyone else has some ideas, please let me know. Thanks a bunch.

Also, if anyone else has ANY ADVICE on this turbokit in general (boost settings, additional parts, etc.), feel free. I'm pretty open.

Thanks again everyone.
This really is a much better Civic forum than some of the others I've been on.

just take the exhaust off and drive without it til friday.

no worries. I drove like that on mine for quite a long time. And mine was a 3" downpipe that ended right in front of the oil pan.

The car wont be too terribly loud with no exhaust. The turbo (especially a small one like the T25) will kill a lot of noise. You will probably find that most NA hondas with custom pep-boys exhausts around town will be louder than yours.

Yeah, Zack, go ahead, scary off the neighbours! lol

btw: http://www.7thgencivic.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=220114

There few links on this topic here, try to search. To tell you from personal experience: Parts fit well, depends on your fuel option if its 1 or 2, both tricky to tune without a wideband. Install is straight forward, but study instractions for a day or so. Dont remember the page number, but somewhere on a picture TSI guys marked rdiator as a firewall and firewall as a radiator. lol, make sure you wont get confused on it.
Here is 2 helpful links:

Good luck!

P.S. Dont ask me how to tune the car, this is where I'm at now myself

Alright, thanks guys! I had one more question (well as of right now anyway). I saw in the wiring guide (provided by a member of this forum) that for the brown wires, they go to the fuel-injectors. However, I'm still not completely clear.

I have the injectors, and these two clips (each clip has a red and a black wire). I was wondering, do the four wires go to those wires (2 brown wires connect to the black ones, and 2 to the reds)? I just need some help with that.

Thanks again, you guys are all worthy of some type of award!

Man, my goal is to make a new manual for this kit when I'm done with VERY DETAILED instructions and pictures. I really don't like how they explain things. Hopefully I can figure out the fuel-injector portion of the wiring.

As I said, if you have any advice, please share. I'll post my manual when I complete everything.

From injectors you connect red wires to constant +12V and 2 black wires connected together to yje first brown wire in sequence

Thanks for clearing that up man! I will try it and give results tomorrow. Should have the full kit (minus my exhaust which is coming in Friday) up and running by morning.

Intercooler on TSI

Has anyone had problems with the intercooler mounting with the TSI kit? It seems to me that the screws are way to long for mounting and will puncture one of the intercooler tubes. Once again, the problem seems to be with the horrible instructions, not with the parts.

Thanks again.
Zach

P.S. Intercooler and piping are the last things and then it is DONE!!!

I did not use TSI mounting hardware. I could not figure it out, so I came up with custom attachments.

2 more questions on TSI kit

Hey again,

I have everything done, except for two little parts.

1. Where does the mass air flow sensor on the engine block plug in? I can't find any piping or any other place where it would go. I'm assuming you still need that and the piggyback doesn't override it.

2. The vacuum hose goes into the MAP box; I figured that part out. However, I have another vacuum hose that is the same diameter as the one that goes into the MAP box, and 2 Ts. I can't figure out how to rig that up.

Thanks again. Should be done after this crap is figured out.

2. You need the hose that is closer to the firewall, on the driver's side of the trottle body (TB)
1. Do you see the sensor (read #2)? The clip just belo the vacuum hoses.

I looked for what you were talking about and didn't see the hose. However, it wasn't the mass air sensor, it was a temperature sensor. When I had my AEM V2 intake, it plugged into that. However, there isn't any place on these pipes where it will fit. It is right near the throttle.

The big concern, though, is where I tap into these hoses. I can't seem to find a vacuum hose at all, nor do I know what I'll do with 2 T-connectors. Please help.

don't be so sure, you have tuning to do first once its put together , as for the TSI kit I had no issues at all but guess I was just a lucky one

Hoses (vacuum) for TSI

Hi everyone,

I'm probably not making myself clear and that's why I'm not getting a good answer. I've made a diagram of what I have. The only thing I have left to do is connect the BOV to a thin hose, and the control box thin hose to the vacuum hose of my car.

Problem #1:
I can't find the vacuum hose. The diagram that I found on this board in another post points to this hose that is WAY bigger than the two hoses for my BOV and control box. Hopefully someone can point out where the vacuum hose is for me.

Problem #2:
I don't know where the 2 thin hoses I have (one to BOV and one to control box) connect in. Do the control box and BOV thin hoses connect together? Can someone please just illustrate it for me using my diagram? I also have 2 T-connectors that came with the thin hoses.

Hmmm, what is the manufacturer of your BOV? they may have a site that shows a diagram, post up your bov brand.

It's the BOV that came with the TSI kit.

Ehhh,
I think you are waaay to drunk..
As per your pic: you take hose from BOV use T to connect it to TSI control box.
Then last connection from the T taps in to the vacuum hose that is way too big. How you will be T-ing this 2 hoses is just another test of your imagination brought to you by TSI....

Wow, I hate this. I really wish I would have just saved my money and never gotten into turbocharging. It might have been different if the directions from TSI weren't HORRIBLE! I basically have no idea what to do with any of the things that I have left.

I have left:
1. Stupid vacuum hoses that don't even match up in size.
2. Wiring the two wires from the control unit to the ignition (I'm not sure what to do there because of my viper alarm)
3. Where the hell the piggyback box goes (one diagram shows it tapping into the ECU and sitting somewhere inside the cabin, and the other diagram shows it outside the cabin tapping into the MAP.)

I really hate this project. Three 12-hour days now and it is still not done.

Dont be upset! Its ok for any project of this size. Yes, instructions cover just basics.
1. As far as the hoses go - only issue is to match up the small hse to a larger vac hose. Use universal T fitting from auto store. Its easy.
2. What color are the wires that you are left with?
3. TSI ecu, is this what youre taking about? Then leave it in the car. Only things that go from it to under the hood are the vacoom boost hose and 2 wires to injectors (or one wire if you tap fot 12V under the hood) The black box stays in the engine compartment, dont worry about that one.

All things that you say are easy.

Good luck

1. Okay, I think I can do the hose matchup.
2. The two wires that I'm left with from this post:

http://www.7thgencivic.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=207055

Are white and red. I just am worried about their being a problem with my viper alarm.

3. The box mentioned in the post above (with the 12 wires) is inside my glovebox and everything is fine with that one. However, the piggyback unit, which has 5 wires coming out of it and nothing else, I have no idea what to do with.

I really do appreciate your help.

2. I dont know about this conflicting with alarm, but the thick wires at the ignition lock have connections to this 2 wires. Black with yellow stripe wire - to white wire, Red - onstant 12v - one othe thik wires, you can find it with voltage tester ot your car bulb.

3. You must be tired, the TSI display connects to TSI ecu, there is connecton for it on the other side of the TSI ecu!

DYI for TSI kit? Are you kidding me?
There isnt going to be enough space on the webserver to hold all needed info!
TSI is not your basic t.kit. its not just bolt on and go!
TSI is a bout spirit and attention. Thereis no 2 identical TSI kits exists! DNA do not match on any of the TSI kits!

Hahaha, I am very tired, but I assure you there is a part like I'm describing. I know that the display connects to the TCI ECU. The TCI ECU has 12 wires. This one has 5. I'm not sure what to do with it. If I find a picture of it, I'll post it. To be honest, I'm not really sure what it even does.
