How do you run your IC piping on both sides?
I am just wondering for those of you that have your intercooler piping on both sides and have an LX model civic where you just remove the windshield washer fluid bottle, how did you run the IC piping on the drivers' side? It seems like the AC/Power Steering/Alternator would get int he way and I was wondering what you guys did. Thanks for the help.

that is opto's...he can still use a/c and powersteering
if you run your ic piping from the compressor housing to the intercooler by way of the drivers side, then you will have to remove a/c and powersteering, but what every way that you go, the alternator will not be in the way

This way, the piping is shorter and has less bends, and you don't have that extremely stupid bend inside the intercooler that hurts spool so much that you would have if you had the pipes in and out of the intercooler on the same side. Better to use a pipe for a bend than the inside of an intercooler.

Here's the best shot I have of it. It looks like it hangs low, but it's no lower than the exhaust system and barely lower than the stock splashguards. The rear splashguard is the thing you see hanging down almost in the center of the car, it hangs about 1/2 inch below the level of the pipe. I haven't hit it on anything, and our roads are some of the worst I've ever seen.
Just go straight down out of the turbo, go towards the driver side (that's the pipe size increase I was talking about), loop back and up, and you're there.
Hey Riceburner thats a great shot of your ride man ... off topic but what size tires are those??? Anyhow, when I start installing my setup, I'm going this same route ... It just seems that the intake charge has a more direct route this way ...

Just keep looking, and trying out different angles, you will eventually get it. If you are using the TSI kit, the pipe by the drivers side wheel, will have to be replaced. I bought a flexitube from an auto parts store. Not too much, just get the same diameter, than you can bend the piping to how you need it. It basically needs to be straight.

my car is like 2" dropped, and the piping hangs about 2" lower on the drivers side front, coming out of the IC. it sucks pretty bad. I am gonna try flipping over the IC, and see if it fixes anything. I hope so. If not, time for some custom pipes.

ok ok ok...i take back what i said....you dont have to remove a/c and power steering, but i live in the country....most of you live in the city...am i correct...where i live, roadkill is a common thing...the lowest point on my front bumper is 2 3/4"....if the pic is correct on rice burnerex's car, his ic piping comes below the subframe...that will not work on my car...that mean if i hit a bump and the front suspension gives, the ic piping is coming off....so therefor, i am removing my a/c compressor to make room....plus it will have a little add protection being behind the radiator support and stuff...my car is low....trust me...

Here ya go.

Sorry if my Engine bay is dirty. It needs a clean again. Been a few weeks. I need to used my aluminum polish tonight. I hope these answered your questions. If you need the other side, Ill take pics, but thats pretty simple. You may need to hammer some of the frame in on either side, and also take out the windshield washer resorvoir. You wont fit the piping with it on.

In the second pic, you can see a pulley right behind the piping. You need to use a ziptie to hold it out of the way. You can route the piping a little better than TSI did ifyour going custom. Bring in the pics if you need, and show the people doing it. They'll figure out a better way themselves Im sure. Cuz I cant turn right very far. They could have worked that out very simple.
Gabe your piping on the driverside looks a bit odd. Almost like the piece on your driverside, inside the bumper actually belongs on the passenger side. I have the tsi piping and intercooler also and the piping I have doesnt come that far out inside the bumper like that. It hugs the core-support and frame as it wraps around.

Its a flexi-tube, hehe. The pipe they gave me with their kit had a funky bend in it that didnt work. We ended up warping/melting the pipe with a torch the night we were installing the piping. it was funny, I was just watching them heat it up and try to bend it. 5 minutes later of the torch being on it, I saw it turn blue, I was just thinking, "haha, its fudged". they kept holding the torch, and it started warping. They kept the torch on longer, and it melted, they kept the torch on STILL, hahaha. It was messed up pretty bad. So we bought a flexitube from a 24hr auto parts store, and threw that biyatch on there. Fits perfect, hahaha.
Peace

And i prolly have 1-1.5" of clearance atleast on the top side and i could have even made it lower if i tried. I didnt bend the piping at all, i made the pipe using mandrel U-bends and cut them at the lengths and place of the bend that i needed and lined it all up like a puzzle. then welded it all together. I may remake a small section at that center weld. from an angle its not a perfect transistion if i get bored before i boost!
