Just Began My Venture Into Boostworld!!!

hey i looked around for a lil bit to no avail, and im still fairly new to the turbo tech stuff, but i plan on installing my own custom kit and i just bought a garrett t3, but the guy supposedly doesnt know much about turbos he just got it from a friend to sell, so i ask what trim what housing, and w/g, he responds; internally, and 48 as the housing, dont know what kind of trim so i'll assume its the lowest one...
the pics are all shiny looking and all,we'll see when it gets here how it really looks and if it works,.....so my question is on the pics i see 3 bolts is this indicative of it being old or does that just mean that its meant for another manifold setup for another car, because i havent seen anyone on here talk about 3 bolt patterns, (i think subarus have that?)

..anyways i got it for a great price so i felt it was worth the shot to find out whether it works well or not, hope its not a scam, i planned on finding a shop that might be able to tell me everything i need to know about it after i recieve it too

thanks for any input

Remember that trim and A/R are different things. Trim is merely the ratio of the big part of the wheel to the small part, and A/R is the housing size.

yeah thanks, i get that part ..didnt know the definition for trim but i knew they were different things, when i asked him those three questions he responded that... it was "internally w/g" , and as far as the housing he respondedwith "48" or .48 a/r, ....he didnt respond to trim so i said id assume it was the lowest trim (i think 50? or 49 or somethin)

I think I have the same turbo. The 3 bolt pattern you're refering to is where the wastegate flange goes I believe.

hmm im a little bit confused, i thought the 3 bolt was the part that connected to the manifold, and i believe i was told something about another part that directs the air more efficiently to the pipes? is that the part that connects with the 3 bolts?

thanks again for your help

The end that has the four bolts is what attaches to the manifold. On the outside of the wastegate is where you have the 3 bolts at is where the downpipe connects to. Atleast thats how mine is.

hey anytime. Did you check for shaft play? Is yours water cooled and oil cooled or just oil cooled?

Thumbs up

hope not im still waiting on it to be shipped, and how do you check that yourself, by just spinning the blades? (shaft play)

...but just to clarify, as in the picture in your gallery of your turbo, right around the top of the blades is where the triangular flange with three holes is, now i think what you were talking about is on the other side right? if im still unclear i'll post a pic, now somethings telling me thats the outlet to the intercooler
