Diy K20a2 Swap In Progress - Into Auto Coupe
My K20 swap date has finally come!!!!
I have been counting the days since January when i picked up my type-s setup. I will be swapping into a NBP automatic coupe.
I will be documenting the whole swap. I will try to be sas detailed as possible to help anyone with any doubts about what needs to be done. It will be done in my garage with the help of my friend (hes running a 93 hatch fully built B20 w/30 psi- 9s 1/4mile!!)
This swap i hope will be done in a few days. Following i will post a DIY guide to document exactly what i did. I have put in countless hours researching this swap and know quite a bit about it. But ill only fully understand it when i do it. I have never done a swap before but im pretty good with a wrench.
Type-s Goodies to go in with swap:
-Hasport Motor Mounts - I may make my own custom moutn brackets for the stock mounts.
-IMG - for starters i have installed a Hondata Intake Manifold gasket. This will reduce intake temps. The K20's enemy is heat so this should cool things down.
-DCRH - this is a DC race header (no cat straight thru)
-Cold air intake (generic)
-Stock Type-s exhaust (for now)
- JDM shiftter (brushed aluminum with red 6spd lettering)
- Shift bushings (for tighter shifting feel)
- AEM pulley set (may not use due to hood clearance- the p.s. pulley is slightly larger than stock)
Any comments are welcomed!!

JUST GOT BACK FROM ANOTHER DAY!!!
WERE JUST KNOCKING THIS THING OUT!!!!
UPDATE:
-we got the motor in (was a close fit!!)
-installed my dc race header
-put the axles and my wheels back on
-hooked up some hoses
- 1/2 of the wiring done
Tomorrow:
-hook up rest of the hoses
-finish wiring
- tie up loose ends
The swap has been going very smoothly. We have not encountered any major problems. The motor was being a little stubborn but we eventually fit it in the bay. This motor just looks so sexy in my ride

are you relocating your battery to the trunk? If not how are you moving the mount for it to the drivers side? is it bolt in or welded in?

Today we made good progress:
I thought we'd be done by now, but its the little things that take the most time.
Wiring is the challenge for me, i keep putting it off. Were going to tackle it tomorrow. IF ANYONE HAS SOLID INFORMATION abuot how to wire the engine up please let me know. I want to get it right the first time.
UPDATE:
-hooked up fuel line (got it from civic SI)
-hooked up coolant hoses (from SI)
-prepped radiator and fans (from SI)
-did battery cable extension
-hooked up power steering lines (custom fab'd for low pressure)
LEFT OVER:
-intake (dont have one, may use stock for now)
-a/c (may just worry about this in the summer since it needs some custom ****. I have all the lines from the si but still not the same)
-fuel pump
-exhaust (getting custom done. You can use any civic exhaust though)
Im going to run open header fro a few days!!!
With my DC race header DCRH its going to sound MEAN!!

nice we got to see those pics. I will be doing my swap myself when the time comes so these little notes are a great insight. I plan on getting the swap harness from hassport. thats one can of worms i am not interested in. Keep it up.

Another few hours today
STATUS:
-Finished wiring!!!
-hooked up battery (custom battery mount...looks HOT!!)
-used d17 Aem intake that i had (also custom fitted - temporary)
-installed radiator
-filled all fluids
-shaved underside of hood for p.s.
WELL GUYS, WE TRIED STARTING IT TODAY AND IT CRANKED BUT DIDNT START.
I think its the immobilizer. BUt i was under the impression that it would drive in limp mode for like 25 miles or something. Going to take it to the dealer to have it reflashed and hopefully itll work.
I checked spark and were not getting any spark. I hooked up the fuel pump direct to power in hope bypass the immobilizer but still didnt turn over.
If anyone has any suggestions please let me know.
