for just pistons rods and sleaved yes. but if your doing it your self remeber you need all new berrings and other parts since you really are just rebuilding your d17. i was quoted 4grand from the shop i go to
a lot of it is for just cost. the rods and pistons need to be specaly built and the stock ones are usualy needed to be shiped out so they can make you new ones. sleaved usualy costs 800 to 1k any ways then you need all the little dumb parts that need to then be replaced. last time i chexed it was 600-700 bucks to get custome rods and pistons

thats not bad at all. My friend wants me to build my motor before I turbo, but I believe I will turbo, than build. He will rip everything apart for me and install whatever needs it. How much would somebody be looking at for parts and no labor? I mean fully built head and block. Thanks a lot!
www.raceeng.com had D17 forged CP pistons on sale for $199 a set last week

Assume ~$700 to sleeve, at normal pricing close to $900 for pistons and rods, but you can find much cheaper. New rings and bearings as cheap as $120, but more for OEM or good aftermarket. Headwork for a good port and polish with valve job should be no in the range of $600+ depending on work.
Theorwtically you can do this on the very cheap if you know your parts, and your machinest. If you are paying full price, then yes, you will be paying an awful lot, especially if you can't do the assembly yourself.

well, that is with sleeving, pistons rods, hot tanking, etc.......
It all depends on how elaborate you get......oh yeah........labor cost money too.
With a sleeved block, a P&P job equivelent to KMS's stage 2 or 3, new low comp pistons, new valves/springs/retainers/guides, and new rods, about how much power could we run on a D17? What would it take to run like 20 lbs of boost to our engines?

with all that........you could be making over 300whp.......but like you said..........our power is limited by the tranny and axles.

Cant we use RSX axles? Or are those not strong enough? They should be, and dont they swap pretty easily? Than find somebody to rebuild your tranny to handle the HP, and should be running better. Either way, well probably be blowing our trannies often, which Im prepared for,a nd I wont race to often (we'll see)
Axles can be custom made for a decent price to handle whatever horsepower. The problem with the build up of this engine is there is no stand alone support. The ECU would kill any gains you would make. So we need a stand alone ECU before we start building anything. JMO

As far as the question of quality, Race Eng pistons are made by Weisco which is good enough for me... should be better than the Arias POS's I have in the Accord motor, but even those held reliably enough until 22# and EGTs had their say in the matter.
