Turbo strain on manual transmission?
Turbo strain on manual transmission?
Hey. I want to turbo my D17, but I'm afraid it will put too much stress on the transmission. I would probably only run 5-7 psi of boost, but I still worry. What do you guys think? Thanks.
I know the rumor is the tranny is fairly reliable up to around 250 hp. A few people say around 300 hp, but at 250 you're already more than double the factory hp output. 5-7 psi will probably give you 160 - 180 at the wheels, so I'd say your just fine, as long as your not spinning the tires all day.

I'm running 6lbs. The trans will hold up. Guns ran 12psi for 2 years. When you get near 300whp, things get overworked and break. My .02
spinning tires....
turbo spools up so damn fast i can't barely give it gas in 1st from a dig without chirping.

If you think about it, in first gear, no turbo, there is more strain on the transmission than a turbo engine can place on it in any other gear. You'll be fine for quite a bit of power.

my transmission lastest for about 7 months turbo...running everywhere from 5-12psi. But then again, i was driving really hard..even before i turboed it. It's all on how you drive, dont beat your **** up like i did, lol. i had to pay for that
