auto 2004 turbo ex need help
Guys I need your help. Im new to this site, I love it! Anyway about a year ago I bought a 2004 ex. I started wit the basics. cold air intake, tanabe exhaust(hyper medalon, no fart can or weedwacker sound, I love this exhaust)dc headers. It snowed balled from there. Were I live its all show and no go at all. Everybody has weedwacker exhaust, big wings that make no sense, and ridiculous body kits. So I wanted to be different. Now I know I bought a automatic(yea yea yea,I know) At the time I didnt Know how to drive stick, I m 37, pretty bad I know. My friend tought me on his 93 5.0 mustang. Now thats funny, but Im not a mustang hater, I just love cars!! I Still have no desire to drive stick, maybe its my age I dont know. Theres also a lot of traffic were I live. No thank you. I have always wanted to build up a civic, so thats what I did. Here is what I have done. Ross pistons(8.5)crower rods, a mild port and polish. aem cam gears,Tein suspension, sway bars, front strut bar, A Garrett custom t25bb turbo kit wit an intercooler. Dh racing is making me a custom intake manifold, bored out throttle body, and I just sent them my turbo. They said they could port it out to get more top end. Dave hickman swears my turbo will be night and day when he gets done wit it. I also went wit an haltech 4 engine mang. Trust me guys u turbo ur 2004 civic ur going to need engine mang. All kinds of probs untill the haltech. There is other stuff, but thats the main things. There is no body kit, just 17 inch wheels, stock ex wing, black tail lights that go great wit the grey stock paint job. Any way I ran my turbo 4 about a month total.(this is out of having my car 4 a year)In an out of the shop a lot. More or less enginge mang probs. I added the haltech about 4 months ago. I was running 8 to 13 pounds of boost(talk about fun, hell yea)Before the haltech my car was dyno on a mustang dyno 8 pounds, didnt do hi boost not sure y. Got 164 to the wheels and 140 tq. People tell me a mustang dyno is conservtive, I dont know. I know 13 pounds of boost felt 10 times faster. I cant wait to dyno my car when the manifold and ported turbo is put back on. Well I knew it would happen, yup my transmission went. So I spent even more money and sent my trans to level 10 4 an complete build up, incl a limted slip. Boy that was a sh*t load of money!!! Level 10 said that my trans could now handle up to 450 hp(ill never see that). Here is my prob. The shop im using is very conservtive. I see people who r running 10 pounds of boost on stock inter.(Guys who r running 8 to 10 pounds of boost on a stock auto will need a built trans sooner or later, Im betting sooner) My shop wants to keep me around 10 to 12 or so. I want to run 9 pounds 4 normal driving and 15 to 16 pounds 4 the track and to have a little fun around town. What do you guys think? If your wondering I have spent over 30gs the last year on my car. It is an addiction. A well, its only money. I just got to make more. peace guys.

Sorry Jttegx. New to the whole posting thing. Plus I did crappy wit english in school. Everything else good. Any way I want to know if I could run 15 to 16 pounds of boost on a built bottom end. with a built auto tranny? Thanks.
I see no problem with that, the major problem people are having here with their Autos are inadequate cooling, and the bands are burning up causing slippage.
With little more than a tranny cooler, there was a gentleman on HondaTech with a 90-93 Accord running 14psi for over two years with no transmission problems before I lost track of him. Not saying that the Civic transmission is any better or worse, but it goes to show what proper preperation can net you.

Can we ask you questions? Heh, I'm wondering what your deal with Level 10 was, like how much money and what EXACTLY you got from them... just wondering b/c I may be interested in that also. Oh and BTW, even if you have a built tranny I woud def. go with a tranny cooler =)

well on lvl10 450 is for like the overhaul kit, they're prebuilt trann's come with new soilendoids and stuff i believe...
Guys thanx 4 the replies. Viper I agree wit you, but compare to what a lot of people pay that I read about in mags and I am talking about civics its just a drop in the bucket. Would I do it all over again? Prob not. Who knows. My trans from lvel 10 is the whole deal. Tranny cooler, new torq converter (burned mine up :-( and yes 2blu its is a phantom grip. reasons why . I know a few people who have them (friends down south) I have ridden in there cars and 4 350 thats what I paid you cant beat it. My friends old crx he has fixed up, is pushing about 210 to the wheels. Used to spin his wheels all the time. He put the phantom grip on, hardley any wheel spin any more. I was sold! Now if I was pushing over 300 or more hp, than I would go with a true limited slip. To custom one 4 my car im looking at 1000 or more dollers. I think we can all agree I have spent enough. once again thanx guys. p.s. It came wit new solendoids

if you are gonna pull the motor to build the bottom end and put money into a built auto tranny, just spend the money on a M/T swap.
Yes, you can run 15-16 psi of boost........but you will have major trouble getting that power to the ground. If you do manage to get that power to the ground the tranny will break, built or not and if the tranny doesn't, the axles will snap. 15-16 psi of boost is just not streetable for the d17.
Also, with this, one of the most important things is the fuel system. So far, the best bet is a Greddy E-manage with type s injectors. If you run that much boost i suggest 440's. Also, with that much boost, you will need upgrade your stock in-tank fuel pump. To do this sucessfully, you will need a fpr and convert to a return fuel set-up since our cars are a returnless.
IMO..........if you have the money, build the bottom end.........tune the fvck out of it and run no more than 13psi.
Or better yet......swap a k20 and run hondata and have a fast reliable car.

I'm sorry, i did not read any of the posts except for him wanting to run 15-16 psi. But, if the bad word DH was mentioned i am gonna slap someone
I guess I should add that I have an complete new fuel system. It has been converted to a return fuel set up, pump,regulater,2 more injectors. Remember I have a haltech that is running everything and it has been tuned to hi heaven. Also running a aem cdI for a hotter spark at higher boost. Level 10 told me 15 to 16 pounds of boost would not be a prob. Remember im only running a t25bb noy very powerfull. If I have to do axles than so be it. I promise you what level 10 did wit my tranny will be a lot stronger than most m/t. As I said I have no desire to drive a stick. Thanks for your input guys.

I am going to shoot my self. I wish I would of known about dh racing before. Ah well that goes along wit everything else. Thanks guys for all your help. I think Im done. I think I will sell my lil d17 and loose a sh*t load of money, and do what my best friend keeps telling me to do just buy a car that is allready fast. That car for me is my M3 coupe. I will never do this again. So much for trying to reinvent the wheel. I was trying to do something different. Guys learn from my f*ck ups. Do your research. I agree wit what a lot of people have told me d17s are just to hard to build up, a lot of money if you want it done rite. Thanks guys for all your replies. If I decide to put everything together for my car and not give up ( Im really down rite now, I have been dealing wit this sh*t for over a year now) I will let you guys know and give you guys picks of my car and the work done. For now I need to get a hold of MR Dave Hickman. Peace guys.
i have a 2004 honda civic EX m/t. i am a student with a part-time job so my cash funds are limited, but they are not nonexistant. I plan to get a CAI (cannot decide if i want AEM or K&N), springs, and an exhaust system. I have a hard time finding parts for my car. I am not looking to be the fastest kid around i just want some more power so i dont get put to shame. Any ideas for Hp gain that are not way up there in cost? i have talked to my friend and all he has suggested is a turbo kit or engine swap. I have found only one turbo kit for my car and it is about 3 grand...that is a little pricey for me. Any tips for hp gain would be well appreciated. thanks
