Removing wastegate spring=No boost?
Removing wastegate spring=No boost?
Hey Im going to be starting the process of installing my turbo and I need to drive it to the shop after the install to have it tuned. If I was to remove the spring from the wastegate, that would leave the valve open and allow most of the exhaust to exit thru the dump tube and keep me out of boost more right?

Not necessarily. It spins much more on a pressurized system (spring in WG)
The second that system builds any pressure the WG, having nothing to hold it in place closed, will fly open diverting all the pressure to the down pipe.

Removing the spring will allow more boost to run out the dump/exhaust pipe
Putting in to large of a spring will keep the WG from opening, causing it to boost to much
It's easy to stay outa boost...just drive like a grandpa in 5th gear lol Ive done it before

Unless you have a really tiny turbo, you may be able to drive it without even removing the spring. Just keep the RPMs down and keep your foot out of it till you can tune it.
