Those with Vortech FMU

Do you notice any weird, loud noises. Like it has that steady hum to it and all time it will get loud for like 1-5 seconds and it does this all the time. It is like a really loud whine........kinda sounds like a sick dog...LOL

yeah, i think i already knew that

but it shouldn't make those loud noises all the time......it does it at idle or under boost. The fuel pump has a steady hum to it and then all of the sudden it will make a loud whine that is like a 1-5 sec burst.

that's because your stock fuel pump is varying the amount of fuel being fed into the engine, the pump becomes louder as pressure weakens from the stock pump, if you give it gas a few times, the noise weakens, because you've sent a lil more fuel to sf setup...

All inline pumps make that noise and with time (long time) these noises get worse. You can try wrapping the pump with some sound proofing material like dynamat etc. That is what I am going to do once I get my kit.

Also, a friend of mine in his 6th gen has an on/off button for the inline fuel pump. For normal driving he keeps it off and thus there is no noise at all. When boosting he turns it on. Works pretty good for his car, dont know about these 7th gens.

just go buy a pressure sensor switch. Set it at 1psi. That will keep the pump off untill you reach boost where you need it and not humming at idle. My kit came with the SF black box wich is two pressure switches(one alch and one fuel pump). Good luck.

ok, i think that some of you might not have the same problem........ i have the humming that a normal fuel pump would make, but it constantly gets really really loud that you can't even stand it. It does it all the time.......when i first start my car, when i am driving, at idle, under boost, no matter what. It didn't do it the first couple wks i had the kit installed.

It kinda sounds like if there was no fuel and the pump was sucking dry.

IDK.....i guess you would just have to hear it for yourself.

FMU causes Fuel problems. That is the worst sort of fuel management to be applied to a turbo setup. You are better off tunning with a SAFC.

so if you have SAFC/VAFC on a turbo setup, you won't need an FMU? I thought it was something that could work in conjunction with an FMU

I always thought you either had to have the fmu or a return style fuel system.vafc can't even provide enough fuel for port work, let alone turbo.

yeah you have to have some sort of way to pump more fuel into the engine. you can't just adjust the fuel curve. i think what he means is using an afc with the fmu. or an emanage.

alot of people are having trouble with their sf fmu set ups. I think this should be a leeson to everyone to just go for the return fuel set up. it would save money(although its a big pain in the @$$) to do this right the first time.

But what is the problem with the sf IC?
