Fuel technical question

alright...i have been talkin to a local mechanic about my SF turbo kit and he was wondering how the SF fuel setup worked...i really didnt have an explanation for him cause SF hasnt really told us...i basically just told him that it ups the fuel preasure because the stock fuel pump cant keep up with the positive boost...keep in mind that he hasnt messed with boosted cars before so this is what he was asking.....he told me that most modern cars basically have a high and low setup on the fuel pump and that the factory fuel pump should be able to supply more than enough fuel to the car meaning that all you would need is something to control the fuel like a FPR or bigger injectors or a fuel computer of some sort....so why would the factory fuel pump work????? can it just not keep up...why wont it...i didnt have an answer for him because i didnt know....well, i want to know...so those of you who have experience, take a shot at it......

Our cars opporate at a fixed fuel pressure, thats how the returnless system works. From what I understand the SF kit uses an inline fuel pump to raise the fuel pressure as the level of boost increases.

He also wanted to know if there was a way to get more out of the stock fuel pump. I think you should get an aftermarket pump anyways since you have to drop the tank to block off the FPR.

I cant think of the manufacturer but I saw a fuel pump controller in summit racing thats suposed to raise the voltage to your stock fuel pump as boost increases but I dont know how safe that is......I dont think you want your fuel pump to overheat and burn up inside the gas tank.....

Again - as posted before, SF's fuel system raises the pressure accordingly as boost increases. This forces the injectors to meter more fuel per cycle than at the standard 45 PSI - so that's how they add more fuel....
