DH Racing Head Installed!
Well I have my pnp head on my car. I have a problem though, it will crank over but won't idle it just dies... does that sound like a timing problem?

definatly sounds like a cam timing issue.
turn the crank to tdc. the look at your cam gear top should be on top and there are lines on each side that should line up with the top edge of the head. these HAVE to be EXACT.
Other than that check all the vaccume hoses on the IM and make sure they are all connected.
double check all the plugs injectors tps ait ect. make sure they are all plugged in.

It really could be anything. Are you getting fuel? If yes, check the timing... It might just be a sensor unplugged or something simple.... Are the valves lashed correctly?
Just go over the engine bay and make sure everything looks good and go from there...

We checked the fuel I am getting fuel I checked my TPS sensor its good we think it could be that i did not change my Intake Manifold gasket that I think im going to replace. But then I have to replace my head gasket again. I am also thinking of going to Honda and having them check it out.

Well before i cough up the money for a Certified Honda-Tech to took at it. the guys at honda were talking about my car and they are saying its either my crank angle sensor or my cam angle sensor. or it also ould be a MAP sensor. Suggestions Anyone?
ill tell YOU right now its NONE of them...
i did my headgasket this weekend... i started the car with ALL those sensors AND MORE disconnected. It started... idle like complete crap.. but it will start.
i even had the timing off one tooth , it just ran like crap is all..
so IMO its non of those things.
sounds like ur fuel or ur ignition system.
are u getting a cel at all ?

I've seen multiple vehicles where the crank or cam sensor goes and the vehicle runs like dog crap since the ECU can't read the spark advance... It could be, but the problem could be soooo many things it is hard to pinpoint it....
I agree about trying to see what codes are being pushed out, this should help shed some light......

well im getting fuel to my coils because i pulled my Spark Plugs and im running rich i can smell it. It could be ignition but how do i check and tell if it is?
Well, you've got fuel, now ya need to check for spark...
You can get a little doohicky that you put near the plug wires that will light up (due to inductance) when the plug fires, I'm not sure if it will work on our cars because of the whole 1-coil-per-cylinder thing though.
Another way is to remove the plug from the block, put it in the end of the coil and have a friend crank it while you watch for a spark.
Alternately you could jam your finger in the end of it and have said friend turn the key... It's a painfull yet definative test, if you're getting spark, you'll know it -immediately-
If you've got an OBDII scanner or access to one, I'd see if you're getting any trouble codes outta the thing. There are some codes that will come up without you getting a CEL out of it.
I'm not famailiar with all the sensors and stuff involved, but I'd go back over them and check to make sure sensors are in the right place with the plugs on the right directions, and that all the vaccuum hoses are going to the right places.
If you have the car's shop manual, you can use a multimeter and check the sensors themselves, it's not likely, but one of them may have died.

I'm not trying to jump in of your thread, but I just want to know how your head looked before you installed it? Was the cambers smooth? Was there any scoring on the head? Just wondering.

well does anyone think the reason it is doing that is because I didn't use a new intake manifold gasket? I just re used my old one
Also would i have to get another headgasket even if my car has yet to run? because if the problem is the intake manifold gasket i need to pull the head again.. so could i reuse the gasket or have to get a new one?

FYI, i had the same problem. My car would sputter, sound like it wanted to start, then die. It just smelled like gas. My problem was the distributor. It was a tooth off. I know you guys don't have a distributor but you have to have some kind of sensor to replace that. I believe it's called the cam angle sensor. It can most likely be set a tooth off or something. Pull a plug out and look in there with a flash light first. When i did, there was a puddle of gas on top of my piston. You have to dry this up before trying to start it because even if you fix your timing problem, there is sooo much gas that it won't start.
I highly doubt your intake manifold gasket could make your car not run at all. Even if your car used a mass air flor sensor like mine, it would still run for a little while (like ****).

dido i don't think your IM gasket would keep you rcar from running. my opinion is ignition. check plugs and the cam angle
sensor.
on a brighter note once you get the car running it will be bad ***.
sensor.

I had my timing a tooth off when i did my head last week... the car ran.. it looked like the engine wanted to jjjjump out the engine bay at idle.. but it ran.
when i took the block off there was soo much oil mixed in the cylnder walls with coolant that it wouldnt drain through the drain bolt.. so i had to vaccum all the oil and coolant out the whole thing with a wet dry vac
it sucked.

well towed my car to honda today and they ran tests on it and everything came back perfect. the only question they have is that the Immobiizer Key unit is not lighting up on the cluster... so if thats disabled could that be my problem?
My 04' won't even crank if the immobilizser isn't working...
I stepped on one of my keys accidently and it popped in half... I removed the chip from the key then tried to start the car. When you turn it to start, it won't even turn over.
The 04's may be different for some reason, though.
