I think it depends on the company that made the wastegate and what type of opening it has. Some do make that "chuchuchu" sound. I need to ask my friend what model he has.

Wow! You guys need to do more research. Everyone here is wrong.

The "chchchchchchchchc" sound you guys are talking about is called COMPRESSOR SURGE. This is caused when the BOV doesn't open quick enough or enough at all to release the pressure in your charge pipes when the throttle is closed. The pressure in the charge pipes will cause your turbo to backspin. That "cool" sound you guys are talking about is the turbo wheel backspinning. It is harmful to your turbo but if you still want that sound, disconnect your BOV or get one with a hard spring or just tighten down the spring hard enough.

If you're willing to cause harm to your turbo for this sound, you shouldn't be turbocharged to begin with.

Its called turbo chatter. My s13 does it at a low rpm shifts. Its like a mild form of compressor surge. Compressor surge occurs at boost levels.

Edit: SpdRcrChk beat me to it.

Your right I meant HKS.....and that sound isnt compressor surge from the HKS BOV its the several chambers opening up in sequence, hince the name.

can someone get a sound clip of what turbo chatter sounds like.

so then why did that stock eclipse sound like that on the highway? could it be that he upgraded to a bigger turbo on stock stuff?

i dont want to harm my turbo i just thought it sounded cool and its unique from all other BOV sounds a turbo car makes. i never knew it was caused by a compressor surge. thanks for the new info Yvette.

whoa u guys are much more helpful than the norcal section.

now i got so much information i dunno which one is 100% correct.

so far im leaning towards the compressor surge theory, but keep the knowledge coming, i hope im not the only one learning from this.

Theres more than one chamber in the SSQV my friends makes a chachacha but I've never heard it whistle....atleast not like my Greddy type S. Hmm he might have his realy tight though so that it wont leak under full boost.

Actually, it is compressor surge. The HKS super sequential is very prone to causing compressor surge because it doesn't release the pressure all at once. The HKS SSQV sounds nice, and looks pretty, but its a perfect example of why pull-type BOVs aren't efficient at bleeding boost and saving turbos.

Yvette's right... the chchchchchchc is compressor surge. It's a mild form though. When my BOV broke (diaphram), i got it. Same sound as if you closed the outlet to the BOV, or the spring is over tightened.
