if you get the alcohol injection ($100 upgrade) you can run as high as 11 psi.

and it raises the octane rating of your gas. The higher the octane, the more boost you can run.

Think of alcohol as a really cold 156 octane gas.........

I'm wondering-- does this mean I can continue to fill up with 87 octane with water/alcohol injection? i was gonna run 93 octane until i was certain the alcohol injection was working OK, then go back to 87 (if it really is the same as using 120+ octane gas). i recall reading somewhere that running too high of an octane is bad? any clarification is appreciated, thanks

I would never run 87 I don't care what else I'm dumping in. The SF alcohol injection kit does not ensure that the alcohol is evenly distributed into each of the cylinders. Basically I'm saying that relying on the alcohol injection is not safe.

I would avoid running 87 unless you feel like paying for a new headgasket (detonation)... Even factory FI cars always recommend the top octane available to you....

And higher octane will hurt nothing whatsoever...

Higher octane burns less rapidly. Its used on hgh compression or F.I. applications. The lower the octane the faster it burns...but the likelihood of detonation increases (under heavier loads of high comp. or boost, etc).

In other words though....a really high octane wouldn't be beneficial to an n/a car for which a regular octane rating is recommended. You might actually lose power.

Octane is like this: The higher it is, the colder it burns. the colder your engine is running, the harder you can push it (more boost) Alcohol injection sprays a 50/50 mix of water and alcohol into your engine, the alcohol is bunred off and the water is ejected through the exhaust as steam taking the heat from your engine with it (making it run cooler so you can boost higher)

I spray 100% methanol. My car runs lean w/ alch&water. It made alot of diff when I switch to methanol. I might do a dyno run on pure methanol and compare. From my butt dyno it feels like at least 15-20hp difference.

Thats probably not the best idea.. seeings how the water is used to cool the engine. The methanol might make more power but it wont get rid of heat like the water will. Hopefully you wont roach your motor.

well running lean caused me not to build power after 5,000rpm. So once the methanol richens the mixture and cools the intake charge it should run alot better. Like I said I will dyno. I posted a before and I might do an after today or tommorrow.

I read this post and it pissed me off. So I went to the local mustang shop and strapped her down to the dyno. What do you know I gained huge hp from 100% Methanol and a little tunning at 10psi. Still very rich and could get maybe another 10hp with more tunning. The mustang shop knows nothing about VAFC-2 and niether do I. We just played with the fuel a little. Check out the results. I think my butt dyno is off about 20hp. The date is today at around 4pm. So dont try and say it is not my car.

Thats cool and all.. but that does not have the cooling ability of the water mix because the water takes the heat out of the engine through the exhaust. So dont be suprised if you try to crank up the boost and it doesnt work out that great.

Have you ever felt pure methanol. It feels cold and burns slow at 158 octane. I run lean w/out it. Water does not add the fuel we need after 5,000 rpm under 10psi of boost. I need more tunning and you will see 235hp at 10psi.
