engine swap or turbo on my automatic worth it?
im goin to college now so i dont have money for a swap, turbo, or much of anything. i was thinking about do in a k20 swap but then the guy at the shop convinced me otherwise. at that time he was just puting in a turbo into a integra type r. i told him about the swap he said it wasnt worth it. he suggested that i just turbo my d17a2. so now he talked me out of swappin motors i think ill just throw in a turbo. my question is.. is it worth it to turbo my automatic?? will i be any faster? or should i just sell my car and get like an integra gsr and turbo that instead?
Sometimes, I can see right through myself ...

I say sticking a turbo on your AT is worth it. That's what I'm planning on doing if I decide to work on my car any more. I'm starting to realize that it's a Civic and there's no power in it. Maybe I should just save my money and put it towards a better car in a few years.
Anyway, turboing an AT is a good idea. There's more constant boost over an MT, depending on how good the driver is. If the driver can shift quickly in an MT, they won't lose much boost pressure. In an AT, it's constant boost as it will always be WOT in a race. You'll have to do a few things extra to prepare your car for boost though. One of the biggest things that you'll wanna do is definately get a transmission cooler. The transmission is going to be worked hard and without it, the transmission will slip.
So, by all means, save up the money and turbo! It'll definately be worth it, as we all know the Civic is a horsepowerless and torqueless bastard.

lease: ^ I agree. It all matters what you want to have and do in the long run. I want to K20a2 my vic and then drop a turbo. Im in the same boat as you though. Im a engineering student, and money will be tight until I get out. If I find a good deal and have the money, then Im going for it. But until then Ill just be happy with my vic and save.

automatics are actually better for turbos. Do some research on how turbos work and you will understand that. Automatics take less chance of tearing up flywheels etc. the manuals do.
Of course that all depends on what pound boost you run. On our cars with stock internals you can only really run an everyday civic on about 4-6 pds. of boost.
