A question about Japaneese racers....
I wasn't sure where to put this so I put it here (if it's in the wrong spot mod's just move it). Well anyways to my question. I'm seeing more and more car's like the Top Fuel 2002 Integra Type R, and theSignal Auto 180SX's just to name a few have their intercoolers in the enginebay. And I just wanted to know why this is? Does it increase power because the cold air goes straight into the intake manifold? I just wanted to know why this was. Thanks in advance.

See the intercooler and how it's jammed in the engine bay? I want to know why they do it that way and not have it behind the bumper.

Rep Power: 0 i think its like u said, its closer to the manifold and gets rushed in faster..... ??? i dont know... or maybe its cuz they tend to lose control sometime and the main spots that they crash their car are the front bumper and back 1/4 panel area to back bumper and maybe they dont want their precious intercooler smashed up! lol

Rep Power: 301 Alright thanks. I figured it was because the cold air is right there but I wasn't sure and I hate going around with the wrong information. Just incase one day I'm put on the spot.
yea mabye its getting the coldest air without having to travel through hot tubbing thats going around the engine up to the intake manifold like a normal front mount intercooler.
