Hey,

Sorry if these have been answered before, I did a quick search and found nothing..

Say you were to turbo your completely stock EX motor, and run it at 5 psi, approx. how much extra wear & tear are you putting on the engine? Obviously getting an extra ~50 hp out of an engine designed for 130 hp is gonna abnormally wear it.. but like how much of the engine's life expectancy will be cut off?


Also, i've seen talk of blowing head & header gaskets.. why exactly do head gaskets blow out? How would you know yours is blown, would you have to visually check, or would the engine run differently?

Engine wear....noone knows yet. I don't think anyone has destroyed a d17 from a turbocharger....yet. Keep your eyes peeled though.

Header gasket....ours is metal, not likely to go very easily.

Head gasket....Catalyst's went out because he was detonating his engine from overheating it. Couldn't say when you could expect to change it from normal wear and tear but a stainless gakset that would lower compression isn't a bad idea. I plan to do that when I build my motor.
