questions for the turbo people

I have a question for all the people with Turbo's, I wasnted to know what internal work (if any) you have done before installing the turbokit? Also if I planned on doing internals first do you think that would be a better idea so when I buy a turbo I could run the boost at 8-9 psi for daily driving and about 13 for racing? I also plan on a 75 shot of NX when the time is right.
Thanks

if you plan on running any more than 8-9 psi stock i suggest you do the internals first. any more than than and you could really mess something up with just the turbo. as a daily driver i recommend about 8 psi, and you could run than with stock internals and some bolt-ons that work well with the turbo. maybe a AFC.

Thanks man. I guess I'll just run 7 PSI daily with just a cam shaft, cam gear, exaust and Apex fuel managment. Then but a new set of pistons and raise it to about 10 or 11 PSI.

i think like 7-8 was safe for internals, and you wont have to upgrade your fuel system any. But 10 psi and up your gonna have to do some internal upgrading along with the whole fuel system. its gonna be expensive, but worth it

I spoke to Max Rev today, they said with two additional injectors and a fuel controller they ran 10psi with 0 signs of detonation. Most fuel systems will allow you to run 7-8 psi safely on a daily basis.

Ok I'm completely ignorant when it comes to turbo...damn newbies! Exactly what internal mods are necessary for the installation of a turbo. Also, depending upon what trubo you buy, I'm assuming, it is adjustable (8psi to 12psi) ? If so, is it difficult to adjust? I'm a 21yr old with a brand new 02 vic and I'm dirt poor, I make $8/hr with child support...any ideas on cheap, but good, upgrades and if I were to save enough money for a turbo, what would be the best with out having to redo my entire engine. Again, I know these ?'s sound trivial, but I'm new to imports (raised on fords).

No internal mods are required to install a turbo, but you will be limited to about 8psi untill you get some good fuel managment. I have seen 10psi with fuel managment.

Go here: http://www.7thgencivic.com/forums/sh...21#post1195721

Theres plenty of info there.

If you still have questions post a message addressed to "Catalyst"
He is the man that can get you the turbo.

Prices range from $2700 for the air-to-air intercooler system to $3500 for the air-water system.

If you don't know what that means, go with the cheaper, air-to-air system.

So for $2800-$2900 you can have it shipped to you probably by the end of the month. If you do buy it, ask for the bigger turbo(only $100)

well worth it and I hear it spools up faster, even though its bigger.

If you got any more questions you can PM Catalyst.
good luck man, happy turbo-ing!

Does anyone know what the cost to get the SF turbo kit shipped to Florida would be? Also what is the average cost for a shop to install a kit? I'm just curious cuz I'm starting to save for the $3500 kit from SFpower. Just wanted to set a goal, that way I know how much busting *** I have to do in order to get it.

A 3" would be good. Less restriction = faster spooling.

I just want to say, i ran 15 psi without any detonation, and without fuel management.

Right now i am running 9 psi daily with the water injection setup. The water injection helps out a lot with this 108 degree heat we have here in the desert.

is that with the same fuel setup that comes with the kit? i thought it was only good for up to 10psi?

i guess it shows our cars can be boosted pretty well. makes me wonder why bigger name companies have been "scared" to release the kits they have developed (HKS in particular)

The kit was only tested to 10 psi before. So we tested it further, and it held up.

I dont think those big companies were scared, i just think that they though it to be a lost cause. But i bet they will feel stupid when our cars are out running their older D16 stuff that they took pride in!

I'd love to see the in-company memo's and ***-reemings in those companies once it becomes aparent that the d17 has what it takes to be just as fast or faster than a d16.. and for all those people who doubted it's abilities altogether..

No, only if it detonates.

A boosted integra tried to race me today. It was an LS with a TD05 on it. He was kinda hanging in 3rd, until my turbo spooled. Then i stomped him. He said he was running 5 psi. I was only running 6 psi, since it was so freakin hot.

is it ok to run at zero psi to say eliminate the boost all together? say u only wanted to use your turbo wen u goto the track becuase your scared of premature wear on the engine boosting everyday. or keep it really low like 1-2 psi just to get around big trucks etc

all you have to do to make the turbo make zero boost is un-hook the wastegate actuator arm. It is on the front of the turbo and comes off with a little pin. It takes less than 2 mins to take off and put back on, so "turning the boost off" is easy.

so if u get a one of the turbo kits and u dont pass emmissions testing, you can just simply turn the boost off and pass like normal?

you have to take the intercooler piping off, and the turbo manifold. Then put your stock header on and stock intake.
