Rep Power: 0 K20A swap or turbo
I know this subject has been covered, but humor me please. I have a 2002 civic lx coupe 5spd. All I have right now is an Injen CAI. In january or feb, I am going to either turbo the current engine or swap out for the k20a and then turbo it eventually. I'm in NC, so i'm not really sure if our emmissions will keep me from getting the K20a, but I wanted to know if it would just be better to save the money and just turbo the d17. I want to do a show car, but I also want it to have power so it doesn't get the all show no go response. How much is the K20a swap and what are places that offer it? JDMHondaparts.com offers it for like 8500 but I remember someone on here saying they could get it for cheaper.

Rep Power: 0 lol. Well....I only make like 13 bucks an hour. But for the past like 3 months and all the way through december I have and will be working a buttload of overtime. I make 20 bucks an hour overtime so I clear like 2000 sometimes more every 2 weeks. I know thats not as much as most people make but it's money to me. Here is my planned setup. I really do want the k20a swap w/ turbo and all the engine goodies. Repaint the car that metallic grey color from an RSX and do a grey swede interior with light black trim. I am looking for some wheels right now. I want some gunmetal with a deep lip. That's just the basics but you see where I'm going. My car is white at the current moment, with those factory 15" alloys. Any suggestions from anyone is well appreciated.

Rep Power: 583 just the basics ? damn, that's like $15,000 right there. Well if u really want the k20, then do the swap and u can always boost it later, and then go for the wheels and work from there. The interior can be done later also, and paint should be last.

Rep Power: 0 Thanx for the replies...This will be my first show car. But I did plan on doing engine work first being it costs the most. But i still did consider just turbo'n the d17, but I would rather have more power to start with so I'm gonna go with the swap.

Rep Power: 0 If you're eventually getting boosted, get the k20a2 instead. K20a if you're going n/a. Have you even found a shop in nc or are you doing it yourself?

Rep Power: 0 I've got a friend who will do the work for me......I haven't looked around at many shops yet. But I will be seriously paying my friend to do this. How much will the K20a2 run me. That's the current SI engine...correct? Anyone here with the k20a2 boosted? If so, what was total cost?

Rep Power: 0 4k ish for engine
650 for mounts
2k for parts , subframe, axels, cables, radiator, etc...
goto www.hondawerx.com
they can help you out with the whole swap, so can HaSport.com they sell the mounts..
i was gonna swap and turbo too.. but its just not cost effective... so i went boost and new d17($500)
if you can get ur car ne where near this one.. your pretty much set.. but ull be spending close to 20k with engine, turbo and other needed parts..

Rep Power: 0 the k20A2 will allow you to pass emissions, so thats a good choice. The motor itself i can get for you for about $3800-$4000 not shipped if you like. That would come with everything from the RSX that you would need. I dont know how much it would be to ship to you, but to give you an idea...it was $350 from Florida (where its commin from), to me in California.
Ontop of that there are about $2000-$2500 in parts that you have to buy, and then i would have a good $3000 on tap before you start your swap. There are gonna be things that are gonna come up that you will have to pay for.
Hondawerx helped with my swap, they are good to talk to. i will be here to answer any questions that you have. I will also be posting on the boards on exactly how to modify the new wire harness. HASport wont offer you much help at all. They are good people, but the only person that knows anything about the swap at HASport doesnt take calls of customers. So they wont offer much help. So, keeping in contact with Hondawerx, DC5@EM2, and myself would probably be your best bet.

Rep Power: 0 living at home does have its advantages. My dad got so pissed that he loaned me the rest of the money that i needed to finish my swap cause he was just sick of the mess in the garage.

Rep Power: 0 Yes I do still live at home, don't hate though.....it's not like I don't fork out money though. I hafta work hella overtime to bank money. I make 13 bucks an hour. At a regular 80 hours a pay period I clear like 800, so that's only 1600 a month. But for the past couple of months and up thru the new year I'm working as much overtime as I can. So far the most I've had is 110 hours of overtime on top of my 80 hours regular. I slept for awhile after those 2 weeks. Anyways. I paid cash for my vic, but I took money out of my mutual fund to do so. I'm buying a house next fall, so I want to get my car done before then. Thanks again for all the info guys. When I actually start working on the car I'll take pics....I've got some before pics right now that I should post but haven't had time to get pics developed. Gotta invest in a digi-cam.
