carbonrod: How bad is the ride quality on coilovers and how much improvement did your shocks/mods make to handling?

I just wonder.. after coil overs, anti-roll bars, bushing, braces and ties.. does a civic handle like a sports car? I figure, probably not.. but I don't know. Is it even close or comparable to somthing like a Z?

The ride quality is ok when there isn't any back seat passengers or heavy cargo in the trunk. With passengers or cargo, the ride becomes very bouncy. This is due to the fact that the B&G coilovers have "auto-adjusting" dampers, which means when the damper is compressed (ie: hard cornering or people & cargo in back) it becomes stiffer. If you are planning to have passengers or cargo, I would steer away from the B&Gs and get something with manual adjustable dampers like the TEIN SS.

The 19mm rear anti-roll bar improved the handling only slightly. Since your car is a different year, I think you have a different stock setup than I had anyway. The bushings and tie bar only added a minor feeling of handling improvement with no effect or degradation of ride comfort. I might put the stock rubber bushing back in the front anti-roll bar to reduce the understeer.

As far as handeling improvments, the B&Gs were awesome when new. Lowering the car after I switched from 45 to 40 series tires didn't really improve the handeling. I got the most drastic handeling improvement by just switching to the aftermarket wheel/tire combo. The second biggest improvement came from the coilovers and the Neuspeed front upper strut bar.

Z-like handling? Maybe.. I wouldn't know since I've never ridden in a Z. If I had to guess, I would probably guess my car handles as well as maybe the lowest level of Z.
