If you've got spy ware...just go to download.com and download Ad-Aware and Spybot...those will clean it right up...then run your Anti-Virus...should be fine...you can send the $50 to P.O. box....fraga....
i agree with fraga...although im not computer literate, but those two really help alot especially for free. I'd recomment downloading another spy/adware remover just in case the one doesn't detect the ware. Just hope you are able to update the definitions.
If you end up coming down here this weekend, I'll try to pic up a reformatting disk for you. I can walk you through it. No telling what all you have on there. Although you can try to remove all of the spyware, it's not a guarantee it'll make it run perfect again, whereas a reformat will.

and as far as the system is concerned, i'm not just tryin to be funny lol... there's ALOT more going in than what's listed (like 7 different monitors and an XBOX 360), but apparently i can't have more than 15 lines in my sig, so i had to reduce it to just the actual stereo equipment

Download this
install it, and do a definition update, then run a complete system scan. Then when it's finished follow the instructions to remove spyware
also download this one also
same thing, install, definition update, then scan system, follow instructions to remove spyware
Now you can also go to Start Menu> My Computer> right click on C:> Properties> now look down a lil and find the button that says Disk Cleanup, click on that and let it think for awhile and when it comes back, make sure only "Temp internet files" is checked (since you don't know what you're doing there might be other stuff to delete but as stated, just Temp files)
Now Start Menu> My Computer> right click C:> Properties> Tools tab> Defragment Now, now highlight C: drive and hit defragment... and if you haven't done that before it will take a long time to complete so be patient.
Reboot after all is done

Did you get the puter working Day-Tripper? I suggest NOT downloading those programs that Fraga and MJ keep trying to suggest. Remember, that most of the times when a computer starts running slow for no reason, it is usually a recently downloaded program that is taking up a majority of your process time (the computers thinking power). Sometimes it simply has to do with the owner needing to update their Drivers (what allows the programs to talk to the computer) and Bios (tells your computer when/how to function)
Have you recently downloaded any programs that are not avaliable in store? Have you been downloading alot of songs? Did you get a new Peer-to-Peer program (thats what allows you to download songs from other people)? If so, try Un-Installing these programs. By following this....
Start button
Settings
Control Panel
Add/Remove Programs (if you want, you can take a snap shot of your desktop while in there by hitting the Print Screen button and I can suggest some stuff to remove).
(Becareful of what you take off, some stuff you do need)
Restart
Go here Norton
Purchase program, Install, Update, Run Program
Try some of these suggestions and drop me a PM or e-mail if you need more help. BTW, I thought your BF was computer savy... Or maybe I am thinking of someone else......

P.S....disregard everything this man has said...just open up the case....get glass of water...pour inside...problem solved...mahahahaha....
Tee hee...but remember...removing the program won't get rid of the Spy Ware that she said she had...plus those programs are made specifially for looking for those types of annoyances...and they are free...
