My Car... Still dead :(

Well guys, it's been a while since I've been active here...

Mainly because my car has been sidelined with a timing belt problem and I had been trying to get married, move and give my wife a nice home before I turned my attention back to my car.

So Friday night, armed with the tools and replacement parts to fix the pesky tensioner that went out and the timing belt that crapped out on me, we went to work in my garage. From 8 at night until 6 in the morning we slaved away. I'm not a mechanic, but my buddy (he's asian) knows plenty about Hondas and so on. Still took us a while.

Tried to start up the car again.... and still dead. Doesn't even turn over. So we think that the Pistons are hitting the Valves...

Which means my car is still toast. Anyone have a spare d17?

So yeah. Don't expect me for any more meets until I get this sucker nailed down. Until then, I remain in my parents ghetto Minivan.

Sorry guys...

but I'm 100% sure it's the engine. Not the starter.

When I said "it won't turn over", I meant it will chug but won't "catch", if you know what I mean. Only thing you can hear is the sound of metal (piston) clanging against metal (valve), which you really don't care to keep hearing when you know what it is.

So I'm probably looking at some aspect of an engine rebuild. Thanks anyway...

but he said he can hear metal against metal "clanging".... don't think a blown head gasket would do that... but there is no harm in taking out the valve cover and have a look ^_^

Take the spark plugs out one at a time and inspect. If they dont look the same or one looks wasted or burnt up, you could have some internal damage. Not always true, but possible. Then perhaps consider buying a compression tester and do a compression test across each cylinder. If there within spec, then its not a head or piston problem. However, if one cylinder is WAY low on compression you got problems. Then there is what they call a leak down test. Here's a quick googled explanation:

Are you sure you got your timing marks aligned correctly? If not then that might be the problem. I dont know if our engines are the type that the valves will hit the piston if the timing marks are off. If so, maybe that explains the metal to metal noise... which at this point might be to late to salvage.

Absolutely positive I got the timing marks right.

It's something internal... We did a compression test and it registered -0-.

That's no fun...

Don't I wish...

I'm married, I don't have the $$$ for a k20 anyways. And even if I did, I like the milage I get on my d17 better anyways (if I wanted my car to be fast, I'd get a different car).

I like my vic as a daily driver, if I could drive it. No sense in wasting a perfectly good commuter car

My opinion. Thanks though...

i found one on ebay. current bid is $150 buyout is $300, shipping is $50 so its not bad. i cant remember if you have a ex or not, cuz the engine is off a hx. I remember you posted you like the mileage, the hx engine will give you better mileage. I'd do a search or ask some of the others if the engine is compatiable with yours or not. Here's the link if you wanna check it out.

LOL Thanks

I do have an EX.

Of course I also live in Cali, so I need the "California" engine, whatever the difference is there. I know that there's a 49 state engine and a california one. Whatever.

Thanks though (and no I don't know what the diff is between an HX and an EX, I would think I could "take the VTEC off" of the HX and make it an EX. Heck it I know, though...)
