Hey David, I just joined the club earlier this month.
I think my situation was worse though when I found out my A/C went out.

I was in passing Bakersfield going to Las Vegas and the $hit died out on me. You could only imagine how much fun that was!!!

The problem with mine is that it works fine (cold air blows out), but after a while it starts making a noise like something is about to blow up.
I was doing 65-70mph and I felt the car accelerate and then decelerate. I had recharged the A/C myself with one of those cans from Kragen's.

Any help on what the problem is???? I would do it myself but I don't want to fawk it up. I plan on going to Honda only because I just wouldn't trust anybody else.

mine went out a few months back. I trouble shot it and found out that when the refridgerant pressure drops below a certain point a switch cuts the power to the ac compressor clutch so it doesn't turn on. This usually happens because of a leak somewhere. I tried charging it myself and quickly found out that i have a bad hi pressure hose. No ac till i swap.
I wouldn't take it to honda. I would take it to a dedicated ac place. honda will rape you.

^ might want to check all your belts and/or pulleys to see if they're in working condition.

Actually my other option would be to take it to a shop where they specialize on A/C.

I would troubleshoot it myself, but I don't have the confidence to fix it. My car runs smooth...no problems at all, it's just the A/C that acts up.
Thanks!

i have a ac problem too. about 2 months ago my ac died... but in my case ac clutch poped out that's why i need a compressor assembly to be replaced.. anybody knows somone who would find a used compressor and install it for me? cheapest i found is 150 labor and whatever the used compressor costs (100-130). you think someone would do it cheaper and dont have to bring the car 50 miles away? thanks.

I just saw that at autozone, did it help at all? did you flush it out and put it in or did you just put it in? do you have the guage for it?

djmota, how did you find out it was the high pressure hose?(which one is high/low anyway? bigger line=high and smaller line=low?) cant you just change the hose and your good to go?

also i saw this product that supposidly seals any leaks(its made for the AC), what do you guys think?

kind of iffy about doing this myself but i also dont want to get raped by a shop.

Recharging it is a piece of cake man. Anyone can do it. you just plug the hose in the low pressure line on the AC line. Most kits come with a gauge and it tells you if you need to fill it or not

low pressure is the one closer to the strut right and not the one closer to the front bumper?

Anyone have the lines for it so that i can just buy the can?

The low pressure on mine was the pipe that was closer to the bumper. The caps have an "H" or an "L" on the top.

As far as me when I did mine, I didn't flush it out, all I did was check the pressure (it was really low) and then decided to buy the rechargable cans and just refill. I don't know if that fawked it up.

I need to check that, because if that's the case then there's a lot of money that I'm going to spend than what I anticipated. Any shops around that you know of in the 626/909 area?
Thanks!

Well I Charged the system and the compressor started working then in I saw a nice white cloud coming from the back of the engine. I still have the charging hose, you can borrow it if you want, but your all the way in LA Let me know.

Naw dude, the A/C was working fine. It just needed a recharge. So I went to go buy 2 of those cans to recharge the A/C on Saturday. Sunday I was heading to Vegas and I decided to turn on the A/C and I felt the car accelerating and decelerating and then I started to hear a noise of something rattling and so I just turned it off.

I'm just afraid of how much this is going to run me to get it fixed.

could be a bad compressor clutch or a bad compressor.

Maybe. That could explain why the A/C makes my car accelerate and decelerate. I mean, our Civics don't have the power of an NSX, but you could tell how all the power goes down when you turn on the A/C.

a/c drains a ridiculous amount of power.

someone on ephatch dyno'ed their stock ep3 with and w/o a/c ... he lost 20 whp. yes, 20.

not sure how much it drains from the d17's ... I dont' think it would be quite 20 though ...

Just buy the gauge. Check if its at the right pressure. If everything seems normal return it. Thats what I did when I found out I dont need to recharge it
