Rep Power: 335 State Route 23 (SIMI VALLEY, CA.) Widening Project
FACT SHEET
State Route 23 (SR-23) Widening Project
Background:
Significant development along Route 23 has resulted in a need for additional traffic capacity. This project, which includes noise mitigation and safety enhancements, will address capacity needs.
What the Work Involves:
The project proposes to widen State Route 23 from 4 lanes to 6 lanes by providing one additional lane in each direction in the median, construct soundwalls, widen bridges, improve the southbound Ventura Freeway (U.S. 101) to the northbound Route 23 connector ramp, install detector loops and ramp meters, and provide a changeable message sign. It will also extend existing outside mixed-flow lane from Avenida De Los Arboles southbound to Janss Road by widening on the outside. Fiber optic lines for a closed circuit television (CCTV) system also will be provided and traffic signals will be added at the Olsen Road on and off ramps.
Benefits:
This project will increase freeway capacity, reduce congestion and improve traffic flow.
Schedules:
Construction begins spring 2006
Construction ends summer 2010
Estimated Costs:
$70 million
Project Contact:
Public Affairs – Dave White (213) 897-3693.
